I think all/most teams will mature around rounds 13-15 and if you're off the pace early and even with a team that matures early say R12-13 wont be able to catch those in front...that extra premo advantage you have will only last for 1-3 weeks... I think the teams that focus on early points and start well and are well prepared for the bye's will be too damned hard to catch.

I'm not so sure. Like always, you need to make money to upgrade as early as possible.

Squeezing extra premiums into your side to try and score well early can backfire. You really need to nail those cheaper type premiums otherwise you will be busy trying to fix your team while others can use that time making money off break evens, etc.

All these trades open up different ways to bring in money but rookies will still be the best money makers. Extra premiums could sacrifice one of those money makers.

Of course, getting off to a good start is important but I don't think it will be impossible to make up ground. Well, I hope not.

By having an extra premium so to say

You would be losing out in some other area. Whether that mean having an extra rookie compared to someone else having a midpricer than that could be it "your gonna score less points" and it all counteracts each other. We all spend the same amount on our starting 22, the only thing that differs is certain players having more upside than others "picking the right players with upside is the difference".

But but but there are so many good 300-350k players this season.
Only got 2 in that bracket.

Look, I've run the same vanilla bigfootyesque strategy for the last 4 seasons and every year I just limp into the top 2-4k... I've come to terms with the fact I don't have the time or desire to crack the top couple of hundred, so I'm gonna be different* and have some fun with it.

Or suck ass, whichever comes first.

*With 4 and a bit days still on the clock I reserve the right to change my mind and run a vanilla bigfootyesque strategy.

How is it vanilla??
Picking the same players as everyone is vanialla but guns and rookies is the shiz in my opinion, it cant be beat, although that may change with the new trading system...
Starting swan ablett pendlebury murphy and okeefe is vanilla

Going ablett cotchin boyd dangerfield shuey is still guns and rooks but its far from vanilla

Your joking right?

Okeffe owned by 1%

Gaz like top 2-3 popular played 45%~ (didnt even bother checking)
Cotch 26%
Boyd 12%
Danger 20%+

The top one is less vanilla than the last one, just because you add one guy like Shuey does not make it any different.

For me a BF vanilla side would be for the mids would be a combination of the two (Gaz, Swan, Cotch, Pendles, Danger) they are they are the big 5 no risk players people are going with.

Its the Ablett over swan, the cotchin over pendlebury that makes it unique and risky, boyd is unique and i was unaware o'keefe in so many teams, he's fairly popular on here.

But both Gaz and Cotch are in more teams than Swan and Pendles so how would that be considered unique?

My definition of unique would be the other way around if anything

Going all rookies and watching them grow to premiums. Then I can grab whatever player I want.

Who is going 4 premiums in the back line? I've got the stock standard 3 but want to add a hartlett/hanley type. Might be at the expense of starting with buddy but given hawks tough start I think this might be a good call. or not

I can't speak for anyone else, but if 7-8 out of Plowman, L Brown, L Thompson, Vlastuin, Pittard, Goodes, Stevenson, Heath, Docherty, Terlich, Wright & Colquhoun are named for Rd1 I will have a hard time culling them down to just 5.
