Just a question, with the announcements of the delistings and retirements, I make that 6 players gone already, how many spots do we have for both drafts.

Do Wellingham and McCaffer come onto to the list, and if so that would leave us with only 4 spots.

Then what happens hwith Scott Reed, does he come straight onto the list or is he a rookie, cause if we are to put him on our list, surely more have to go.

At the moment we have 4 spots as i make it, and considering Ben Cousins makes up one in the internal draft, we have 3 draft picks (before Scott Reed).

Confusing I know, anyone got any information on exactly what room we have, please.

It's not so much the spots but the room in our Salary Cap that's open up. We should have cleared at least $1 million up so we can chase who we want in the PSD and as long as doesn't go silly with it he can name his price. I think we will end up trading for a high draft pick so a favorite son or two could go in our attempt to maneuver Kerr out of the Eagles nest.

Reed could potentially go in the rookie draft, but I think this is unlikely. He could also go as our third and final National Draftee, meaning the six spots we've vacated is enough, but I think this too is unlikely.

The likely scenario is that R Shaw is traded, either for a higher pick that #61 outright, or for an upgrade of one of our earlier picks (#11, #29, #45), and #61 is used to take Scott Reed.

Ben Johnson may well also be traded under a similar scenario.

A few facts to get down here as this is a common question:

1. We must draft at least 3 players in National draft
2. Pre-season & rookie draft is optional
3. Rookies (ie. Wellingham & McCaffer) can either be a. elevated to the senior list & take up a spot there OR b. let go (we could redraft in the rookie draft but any club would also have a chance first)
4. If Scott Reed agrees (he still has the right to turn down the scholarship & just go in the draft - although this is very unlikely) we could pick him as an automatic rookie selection (with our last rookie pick) giving us an extra spot on the main list OR we can just use our last pick in National Draft to preselect him on the main list.

We have so far officially opened up 6 spots (Burns, Wakelin, Holland, Lonie, Isles, Egan).

Facts over here is the speculation:

We will likely elevate Wellingham & McCaffer, that leaves 4 spots. We will likely put Reed straight on main list not rookie. That leaves 3 picks in the National Draft (11,28,44) - sorry if thats wrong i get the priority picks confused. I dont think Pies will comfortable with only 3 live picks so wont be suprised if we open up another spot by trading a player for a draft pick/not elevating one of the rookies/putting Scott Reed on rookie list. I think Pies will want 4 live picks (excluding Reed in ND) & will somehow make that happen - no reason just my gut feeling.

Remember also if we did end up taking Cousins in the Pre-Season Draft that is another spot needed so unless one the options above happened we are left with pick 11,28,44 used on Scott Reed (last live pick),Cousins PSD, Wellingham & McCaffer elevated. I just dont see this scenario happening. Poor Hine would go mad only getting 2 live picks.

Anyway speculate away & correct me if i got any facts wrong but please remember the maths & think if that makes sense.

I think we will be looking to have 3 live picks in the draft before selecting Reed. There is definately some more manouvering to go yet and a lot will depend upon whether we really are going to get Ben or whether we will elovate Macaffer.

One thing is for sure, we wont know the answer until after trade week.

I would like to see us rookie Reed since

1) It would allow an extra draft spot and with Hine's success rate you would have to think he has a few smokies up his sleeve
2) He's a developing KP or HBF therefore you would think he is going to take a year of development just like Brown showed so there is no real rush to have him on the senior list and im sure wouldn't opt for for the draft with the amount of effort we have put in. Leaving us the option of elevating him the next year.

Also the clearing out of LCL would suggest that we have a number cards up our sleeve that we are looking at for a rookie spot
