Computers & Internet How much internet data do you have?

Mines unlimited apparently. When they claimed unlimited I very specifically called them to ask "Is it really unlimited, or are you just calling a large amount unlimited?"

They promised it was and so far (about a year), no issues.

Why would they say it's unlimited if it actually has a limit? That would be blatant false advertising, and, you know, illegal.

No idea how much I use.

Bet you're like most who don't even need an unlimited service, but think they do.

4 gig. Have only gone over a couple of times in the 4 years I've had this one (was unlimited before that until I checked my usage), normally I don't even get the 90% warning. I'm amazed at how much spare time people must have to watch 100gig worth of d/l.

Because a shitload of companies had been doing that continuously around that time. Especially with regards to mobile plans. The ACCC had a big crackdown on it recently

UNLIMITED* Internet!, $x per month, call now

*Unlimited = 500GB per month

Well no one needs unlimited, but when I got it I was living with 2 other people (and plans for a 3rd to move in shortly) and 3 of us have fairly large downloading habits (TV/movies especially) so it was just easier.

Besides, it costs me like $60 per month, why bother trying to find a 100GB or 200GB plan that's not gonna be that much cheaper?

P.S. You got me curious as to how much I do use so I tried to look it up but they don't collect usage data as it's unlimited apparently.

200gb and I use pretty much all of it. The last 3 months I have used 190gb, 199gb, 202gb.

I don't but I just download so it's there if I want to watch something. Plus I'll download stuff for family members and mates as well.

First month I downloaded 900gb. Online HQ streaming mainly from the UK and US along with redownloading a lot of what I lost a hard drive. Since then I've averaged about 250gb

Just recently went up to 400GB because my housemate wanted to download more tv shows than he was.

We used 333GB last month. Really it's the speed stopping us from doing more. I'm on the other side of the river in the dead zone.

100gb a month. Don't use it all, maybe 75%. I have no idea how I could use anymore.

Most unlimited packages have a limit where they just slow it down at.

I agree, but there's probably some kind of loophole with the law their exploiting.

Having worked in the industry, I know there isn't.

If there's limits, which either generate excess usage charges (pretty much a thing of the past), or trigger shaping, then it's not unlimited, simple as that.

200gb. Use about 40GB a month. Have no idea how others use so much, considering I'm on the net from when I get home until I go to bed. Torrents, I guess. I get about 1.5Mbps so I don't really download much. Realistically, I get about 100-200Kbps, which is actually ****ing sad.

All unlimited packages are theoretically limited by the speed of the connection, but shaping occurs well before that point.

If you have a 20 Mbps connection you can theoretically download at 2.5 MB/s.

2.5 MB/s x 60 sec x 60 min x 24 hr x 30 days = 6,480 GB. Makes my 200 GB which I never use look like I'm back in the 90s with a 14.4 modem.

Streaming and downloading. If you don't do either, you'll never need more than 25gb. If you do both, then there's never enough.

I'm on bigpond cable, 200gb. Been going right to the limit every month for the past six months. Should ease off now as the NBA season is over and each game is about 3gb.
