I cannot fathom how Hawthorn actually won the grand final yesterday. Franklin was kept to two goals and scarlett had the honours there well and truly. Roughead was poor all day only kicking the two. Their key player in the engine room, Sam Mitchell, was was well held by ling and they were without two men for most of the second half- one of those being there best player to half time in Young. Brad Ottens was dominant in the ruck all day and Geelong won the midfield battle. For Geelong, Ablett was dominant collecting 34 very handy possessions, perhaps geelongs most dangerous forward, Steve Johnson, collected 34 himself and there worst player tom harley was off the ground for most the game. Yet the Hawks still got up and while it can be argued that geelong were unlucky with there missed shots, good on hawks to capitalize on there chances and take the win.

join the club champ! All comes down to the Hawk's taking and most importantly making the most of their opportunities & good on them. If anyone had have predicted those stats I would have been thinking you beauty! But not to be :)

Maybe. Just maybe the 100's of flogs that have been spewing all the crap about us being a 1 man team all year were wrong? Very few passengers, all solid contributors.

Hawthorns non-star players like Ellis, Young and Ladson kept them in it until half time. When none of the stars were firing, these guys really stepped up.

I really thought that Geelong would come out and run over the top of them in the third quarter, but then they started missing shots on goal and the Hawks took every chance they had.

The Hawthorn defense really was outstanding and they won them the game.

Hawthorn played well as a team. The worst of their three good forwards kled the goal kicking.

The last man picked in the 22,Xavier Ellis was close to best on ground. The next 5 worst Dew, Crawford, Gilham, and Guerra, and Young were also all good.

They were a far more even team than Geelong. Lonergan, Stokes, Hunt and Taylor wouldn't have got into hawthorn's team.

Plus the hawks worked out that Geelong's forward line is shet and the real way to stop them scoring is to stop the midfield running forward on the counter attack. They set up a gameplan to stop this and executed it well.

Hawks allowed 22 scoring shots from 62 F50 entries. Great defense.

Just to name a few who stepped up and pulled the team along with them. Then there was,

Heart
Teamwork
Leaving nothing out on the ground
One for all and all for one.

Simple: Geelong had several passengers, Hawthorn had zero. As good as Gaz is, he couldn't do it on his own.

Our forward line are the reason we lost with mooney lonergan varcoe and stokes doing nothing.
yeh steve johnson got a lot've possetions but had very little impact on the game.

how is tom harley the worst player in our side?

Teams win premierships when their 15th-22nd best players on the field step up. Stars on each side will normally perform well so they will cancel each other out. Therefore the reliance on the lesser players to perform is the key, that's why it is called a team sport.

Mate, if you knew anything about footy you would know that Hawthorn played the game of their lives and geelong was well done. Mark Thompson even said if the game was played next week again they would win...... what a tosser.

Lets be honest, Geelong as a team had a stinker. They still are a great team, but their strength is the contribution they get from all the 22 players on the ground. At full flight they are a 6 goal superior team to Hawthorn. Geelong supporters have every right to feel let down.

To lose 1 game for the home and away season and to not win the flag seems to be an injustice when you consider the Hawks lost to poor sides such as Richmond and the Roos.

Geelong would have to be flag favourites next year, they are an amazing side, and ill be surprised if this doesnt make them strive to win the Grand Final next year.

In 2 or 3 years time this loss could be the thing that pushed Geelong to greatness.

The stats look like Geelong had another good day but they didn't kick straight. In reality I think Geelong were out-coached. Neither team got to play their preferred style but if you stop Geelong letting there midfielders going forward you've done a good job. Ablett was awesome so I think he'd be pretty upset with the other boys. Dew and Rioli had an attacking input which made it possible for the Hawks to win without using Buddy all day. Well done Hawkers. Go Dee's 2025!
