ONLY 4 TEAMS CAN LAY CLAIM TO HEADING THE PREMIERSHIP TABLE

55 years Collingwood
31 years Lions
23 years Carlton
10 years Essendon

All 4 teams headed the table within the first 19 years at different times. Fitzroy surprisingly started off very strong and were only briefly challenged by the other 3 before the Collingwood machine team of 27-30 headed them and stayed there till 1982 when Carlton made their run which continues up until today. Essendon are the century bookends, grabbed 5 years early and have the last 5 years as well, but are way behind the pack, however they hold the unique record of heading the premiership table in all 3 centuries

Ok this is confusing at first. I'm assuming you mean having the most premierships?

The most at the end of each year ie, the number of years they have held the most premierships title.

There's no real need to understand snag anyway - he will soon be burnt.

I see you had no problem understanding it, despite your team never having headed the premiership table

This sort of ******** is the reason why we've been so terrible the last 50 years.

Quit living in the past, FFS.
Actually the record is current, being an ongoing record, as for the living in the past, our proud history is what makes this club and how it will be rebuilt into the dynasty Eddie envisions and we all support

Tell me how us winning 13 flags between 1897-1958 is going to help us "rebuild the club" on-field, ie turning it into more flags?
You tell me why the hall of fame is given pride of place at the Lexus centre?
or why the names Rose, Mchale, Coventry and Kyne are whispered with reverence?
The proud tradition we built is the reason we have the massive support we now enjoy, even though our premiership record is comparable to the Saints or Bulldogs in the last 50 years, but we aren't on the ropes like those clubs, why? because we dominated like no other and we have the kind of support that was born over generations of being the best, we dont struggle for sponsorship or membership like others, and that is a direct result of our record..... and that is the infrastructure that no other club can claim.... and that is the foundation we will build the new Collingwood on.... so dont tell me history doesn't count..... our history is our future!

You've proved my point.

Whilst our history is proud, it means absolutely nothing in terms of winning more flags.

Hmmm nothing to refute my points just an empty statement, if you cant debate the issue, dont bother replying

The fact that we built our profile over a half a century of dominance is the reason we have the resources today that no other club can claim, those resources were wasted for half a century, probably through complacency at being the best for so long, but now we have a mover and shaker in Eddie who has started to utilize those resources and already he has pulled off a few coups no other club could dream of, state of the art training facilities with the resources of the institute of sports technology to draw upon, the mcg building and paying for an elite social club for us, home games at the largest stadium in the southern hemisphere....... all because we are Collingwood..... and Collingwood is its history..... it is just a matter of time before we are back to being the dominant force of the afl

and ps: we dont need ********weak supporters that just bitch and moan and ignore the strides we are making

There are plenty of 'true believers' out there Snag. I've dealt with LNIZZY before, claims to support the pies but spends all his/her time ripping the club.

The point seems to have been missed - the argument has changed.

My point all along was that it's always (since I've been alive) been "we're Collingwood - everything will fall into place for us". I'm aware that McGuire has put in significant strides off field - but other than the Lexus Centre, not one of these "great strides" will give us any benefit, at all, on field. Since the McGuire regime has come in, Collingwood's focus - it seems, from the constant McGuire media machine - has become off field. "We've got the biggest sponsorship in the comp" scream the headlines.. "Magpie membership breaks all records." Not "Magpie flag drought broken". Not "Magpies recruit star player".

The club's in a better shape than it was five years ago, that's undeniable. Whether we're in better on-field shape is arguable, and the fear that another barren, bottom four stretch post-Buckley & Burns is what is causing the pessimism.

I long for the day where we have two, three flags in the cupboard from the 21st Century. Not the day where we have the best facilities and the most members.

Everything I write is supportive of the club, whether it's positive or negative. The people who in 1999 were claiming "Raso, Wild, Godden are all going to be really really good players in five years time" weren't supportive of the club - the players, definitely, but not the club - because they were never going to get us a flag, which is all you, I, and every Pie fan in Australia wants.

Then you simply dont understand what it takes to achieve onfield success, you have to get the off field right first, you have to put the infrastructure in place, you have to get the finances right, and you have to start at the grass roots level, those things make a club stronger, they attract support, sponsorship and yes.... potential star recruits... thank god Eddie understands these things or we would be facing another 50 years in the wilderness

Guess the Kangaroos didn't know about that in the 90's.

The Kangaroos were one of the most professionally run outfits in the league, unfortunately for them no matter how good the administration was their long term sustained success is hampered by a lack of support, they simply dont have our history and it shows in their attendances, membership and sponsorship

They do have 4 flags in the last 30 odd years though. Probably takes some of the pain away.
The pies have 5 in the last 75 odd years.

They were one of the first clubs to model a football club as a business, no accident that businessmen like Ansett and Casey were involved, thats why i have real hope that we have turned the corner, Eddie is a self made millionaire and entrepenuer extraordinaire with more contacts and leverage than the pope, i think we are in good hands for the future

I think I'd rather put my faith in football ability than history, money, sponsorship and facilities. I don't see any of those being much value at CHF.

And that sadly Fred is the attitude that saw super talented players like Baldock, Stewart, Harvey, Lockett and Loewe pass through your club for the stunning return of 1 single premiership in 80 years

and ps: the Kangaroos getting the off field right (in particular the recruiting department) sure did get value at CHF when they plucked a young kid named Carey from NSW and stuck him there ;)

Fred, wouldn't you agree that if a club can get all the off field things right, then it is only a matter of time before it is reflected on the field.

The point about North is exactly right, they really got it together off the field and then, as you rightly say, they won 4 flags
