Harsh but deadly accurate. You could say this Coalition defeat is 11 years too late, but better late than never.
The Howard Government's conduct during it's time in office has been ordinary at best and appalling at worst. The vilification of minority groups, union members, the lower class, even those of simply differing views has been horrendous.
It's hard to overlook the Howard government's sheer lameness in international policy. Ignoring relations with our Asian neighbours, who will increasingly become culturally more related with Australia, due to some old-style belief that the US and other "old boys" should be deemed more important.
Perhaps most unbelievable of all is how the Coalition has somehow been able to attain this image of being fully responsible for Australia's current economic situation. Anything who's ever read more than 10 pages of an economic textbook (very few people overall I dare suggest) knows that Australia's current economy is primarily the result of the widescale discovery of minerals and events outside Australia which no government can control.
The Howard Government's economic reforms have been soft alterations around a hard core that they've barely touched. They've been the benefactors of the reforms of previous governments and random events over which they've had no control. Most people wouldn't know the difference between good economic reforms and a dick up their ass.
There are many other areas in which Howard has failed or barely done anything with. Education being the most prominent example at this time. "Performance based pay" indeed. I wonder if that policy was thought up whilst someone was sitting on the toilet.
In summary, the Howard Government rates about 1 star out of 5 in my eyes.
Will the Labor party in government fully be what I think it should be? Doubtful, but if it can even keep a trace of honesty and decency in it's governance then it will automatically be light years ahead of the pathetic Liberal and National parties. I hope they spend a long, long tenure in Opposition, somehow clear out the deadwood, and at least make themselves mildly respectable again.
Dicks might fly.
yeah! a decent attempt at going out, in as much style as a 68 year old politician i wouldn't vote for can. don't worry john, i like you more than i like costelloIt was an excellent speech even though I can't stand the man. Almost felt sorry for him as he walked off. Kudos to him though.

This post saddens me. A week before a federal election someone makes a thread about the upcoming concession speech, and the first post is "I missed it." This would mean one of two things parkes, either you didn't know the election was still a week away, or you don't know what a concession speech is. Take your pick.I missed it, any links plz?

And you're 23 too... *sigh*
Too true. And it's incredibly frustrating to here such lines as these:
"F*** politics"
"I wouldn't have voted for whatsies-name Costello if he was leader, but I just like Howard"
