Opinion Humble Pie time

I figured getting to the end of the year, time to address a few calls and opinions we might have changed our minds on.

Jarryn Geary, I was wrong calling for him to be dropped. He might kick a mongrel pie floater every now and then but he is a seriously stingey defender, gives blokes no space, competes hard, chases blokes down. He won't ever kick like Birchall or Webster or Savage, but he's as tough a 1-on-1 defender as you get.

Richo, I was frustrated with some of his dropping and non-selecting of players, but when you look at what he's got out of Acres I reckon he knows what he's doing with the young kids. I'll back him in with picking which kids get a game at the moment.

Gears has severely impressed me, I'll admit I was wrong on that one.

I think Nathan Wright proved us all wrong with his pure attack on the contest. A lot of the fringe players aren't getting delisted without a fight it seems.

Hickey proved that he could not only handle the number 1 ruck tag but has excelled this year. I thought he was trade bait this time last year.

A lot to like but a lot still to go

I wasn't sure Membrey was a true step up on a Vegas Gamble Tom Lynch type that we've had so many of and failed so miserably at getting one to work. Got it right this time.

Also didn't have that much time for Seb Ross but he's one of our best now, can be no complaints with him.

He is and we still do. Top sides have multiple top mids. Look at how we got smashed last night with Steven heavily tagged. Need others to fall back on.

I had unkind things to say about Dunstan's endeavour earlier in the season. I was wrong.

We're not a finals side but we're one of the best teams outside of the eight. When our old blokes go we won't fall into a heap. I'm pretty sure something good will happen this off season, current form suggests so. Acres isn't going to win a brownlow but he's far from the worst player in the league. Our role players are good and you can't expect the world from them. League football is a ridiculous step up from vfl, trust the selection team is doing the right thing. If someone is actually "in the know" they're either paid to spread information or they come on here to pump themselves up, as much as we all love their info they really shouldn't be posting what they know online. There's a reason none of us work at the club and post on a footy forum, it's fun and we really shouldn't get as worked up as we do.

Draft and trades. Our young fellas from the 2013 draft are going to pull a seb ross soon enough too. Lonie and sincs have second year blues. Wait until Goddard and Mcartin are 24 too. We're still a fair way off but we're driving on the right road.

I remember being at Etihad thinking the end was there for so many stars like Harves, G train etc and wondering how we were going to find enough stars from our team of role players with only Milne, Lenny and Rooey looking top line stars. A couple of years later we were playing in GFs. Some will already be on the list. I reckon Blake will be a superstar.

i can point out that a second rounder is a gamble rather than a sure thing at the best of times. Therefore its not really a stuff up.
Have you stuffed up if you call tails and the coin comes up heads.

Only stuffed up if the guy tossing up has a history of pantsing you (e.g Essendon or Collingwood "trading" last ten years)

Great post, nailed it. Only takes a break out year (that i think will naturally come from a bunch of our blokes when they hit 50 games) from a few blokes already on our list for the complexion of our team to change dramatically. people often forget that and are too quick to make definitive statements on our players and the re-build as a whole.

I admit, i was one of the supporter who lost faith in Geary but it seems he is one of the integral part of our defence structure.

I thought Billings will have a break out season but he proved me wrong.
He is still young and lots to learn. I hope he improves in 2017 season and regains his confidence and mojo.

I hope Savage improves his game next season and gets more chance on wing or midfield.

Mine has to be mav, i really thought he was overrated and one of the younger kids would take his spot at the end of this year.
