Very happy that he will be available for Round 1, although it may appear as a soft penalty because he won't miss any season games and he may not have played NAB cup with his wrist anyway.

They did say more to come. But think that will most likely be some sort of community based work with responsible alcahol or the indian community.
Who cares if it seems soft, only flogs on BF. As long as the AFL is ok with it then no dramas.

The poster's expressed fear that this penalty may appear soft to others, thus mitigating against its suitability and acceptability, is likely to seem plausible and justifiable if, as in this instance, the aforementioned penalty is in indeed somewhat lenient.

Rather than being a smartarse, expand on why.

And take note of what I said on the other thread. This isn't the main board.

The question is though, is Michael Hurley a walk up start for round 1, given that he missed some training through injury, missed the intra-club praccy, and won't be playing the highest level of practice/NAB matches beforehand?

He may still need 1-2 games out at Bendigo to gain selection for the senior side.

Personally, I reckon they should make him drive some of the blokes to and from training, out to any functions etc. so he can get a feel for what cabbies have to put up with...

I think people such as UpTheGuts need to read the statement a little more carefully.

Club CEO Ian Robson said the suspension was a significant sanction and will form one part of a broader response that would be announced soon.

Why would they announce the full extent of his punishment when his court case hasn't concluded?

If he's found guilty, I think you'll find a firmer punishment will be handed out. Until then, get off the high horse.

i don't think he should have been suspended at all - the only thing he's done wrong is stay out late and get drunk during the offseason.

the taxi driver is lying

Disappointed.

Should have sent him to an old school style gym to work on his fitness so he could be ready for round one despite not playing in the NAB Cup.

Weak.

Gee that's original straight from the Herald Sun.

I think the fact that he is young is why his punishment might seem a little light but due to that fact it is geared towards educating himn and a second type chance. It may also seem light compared to other leadership groups trying to outdo each other with tough penalties in order to shut the media up.

Also blind freddy can see that the taxi driver played some role in causing the confrontation.

I was being sarcastic...

I think at the end of the day Hurley was out late, drunk and possibly acted inappropriately. He has to face the consequences early and ensure he does not become a repeat offender. He put himself in this position, noone else.

Also for anypne blaming the cab driver you should be thanking him for consenting to Hurley being eligble for a diversipn program lessening any potential sentence if he is guilty. Diversion programs require the agreement of the victim i am pretty sure.

If Hurley plays round 1 V's Geelong, it's not really a suspension is it?

Smart play by Essendon. They're seen as taking action but not going too far as to jeopardise themselves 4 premiership points. Same applies to Carlton's handling of Betts, Walker and Houlihan.
