Fair enough. But...you're counting Schulz as a forward and not as a backman, and to be honest Moore, Thursfield, McGuane, Rance, Hurley >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Riewoldt, Hughes, Putt, Gourdis, and Schulz. So while there may be a balance in numbers, there is a bit of an inbalance in talent.
On exposed form there is, but once Hughes, Gourdis & Putt have had the chance to develop like Moore, Will and McGuane have the balance maybe just about even. The way I see our list being put together, I don't believe we are after Buddy/Fevola type KPF who will kick 75+ goals a season. Instead I belive we are after KPF's who are capable of leading out, taking a grab and kicking accurately. With Riewoldt, Hughes and Schulz we've got exactly that.

Meanwhile at the other end of the ground we'll have a backline who can stop opponents but can also create attacking play from the backline. To do that I think we would be best served by having Moore play off the HBF. For that to happen we would need a KPD come in who was 195cm & 95kg with very good speed. We can then plonk them at either CBH/FB, with Thursty in the other & McGuane as the 3rd tall.

Doesn't have to necessarily be Hurley that fills that role, it could be some kid who we pick up with 58 or even as a rookie like Will was.

I can hardly see Hughes, Gourdis and Putt becoming as good as Will, Kel and Luke will be. Remember the latter 3 still have improvement, while Gourdis is still very, very raw. I don't know a lot about Putt so I won't comment, but the fact that he is such an unknown indicates he's got a fair way to go as well.

we should not get any KPD in the draft unless there is one that cannot go past our pick. if hurley is there take him unless there is a good midfielder there. if we get hartlett/sidebottom/ziebell then we should go for roughead or a tall. if we get vickery with the next 2 picks go for midfielders

I sought of agree with RT. I think our list has been built more around the backline and midfield with tall forwards that can do a job. Hawks wanted star forwards but i think we want an even team - Geelong as the model.

If our backline and midfield is strong, quick and skilled it will give just about any mug a chance up forward. Hughes, JR, Gourdis, Putt, Shulz should all be able to play a role at some stage. Throw in Morton and Collard, rotate Edwards, Deledio, Cotchin, Tambling, White through there and i think we will kick winning scores.

What i would like to see is Moore and Rance having the flexibility to play tall or play the Harley role and float off the weekest forward. If we do take Hurley it just gives our side more flexibility as he can play forward or back. Speed is poor but skills are sublime. Trengove or McKernan could fill the same role though but with the added flexibility of being able to play ruck.
