It's just a bunch of US East Coast media domination. Pay it no mind. Yeah, there'll be property damage, but by the time it reaches NYC it will be nothing more than a heavy storm to provide drinking water for all the rats and homeless people. Won't stop the endless media coverage. A year from now they'll give a day of network news coverage talking about the disaster of last year.

When we are leveled with tornadoes in the Mid-West, it gets a passing notice in New York with perhaps a scroll at the bottom of the screen while the twinkies on the TV talk about the latest trendy restaurants that have opened up. When another big monkey climbs the Empire State Building, I'll gladly watch that. But this Irene is a tempest in a tea pot. The insurance companies can sweat it. The rest is all hype and more typical East Coast Media bullshit.

Good luck to all those involved: people and animals - I would rather a mass overreaction than ignoring it. Hopefully it does weaken by the time it reaches New York.

Some say it is worst then Katrina time will tell

Katrina was a category 5. Irene peaked at category 3 and is currently classified as a category 1. So I think Katrina probably has her covered.

Mooster isn't probably far off. Have been watching some of it on the news and couldn't help but think would this be getting as much coverage if it wasn't heading towards NY. Nevertheless, you'd be stupid not to take any hurricane/cyclone seriously.

Fox News has been great value to watch.

Crossing to the Emergency Weather Center to get important updates. A live cross to some bird in Hoboken, NJ, where flooding was reported. We, the viewers, got live, exclusive and a truly frightening look at... some puddles in the street and steady rain!

Truly chilling vision.

Strong overeaction

Maybe so but in situations like this, it is impossible to get it right. You either overreact or do nothing - I would love to find some occasion in history where all the warnings/actions were 100% right when it comes to weather.
