Just how much do you value our young guns?
Hypothetically would you trade:
Yes or No?
NicNat for Garry Ablett
Swift for Nic Dalsanto
Masten for Rhyse Palmer
LeCras for Roughhead
McKinlay for Yarran
Brown for Nathan Bock
Hurn for Luke Hodge
Cox for Sandilands
Spanger for Andrew Walker

NicNat for Garry Ablett- NO gary ablett is a freak but nicknat is so exciting and he is only 19 and i just cant wait to see him dominating on the ground for the west coast eagles in a few years time.
Swift for Nic Dalsanto- Tempting but NO.
Masten for Rhyse Palmer- NO
LeCras for Roughhead- HELL NOO
McKinlay for Yarran- maybe
Brown for Nathan Bock-nope
Hurn for Luke Hodge-nope
Cox for Sandilands-defentley not
Spanger for Andrew Walker-maybe

thats how i look at it i would prefer us to grow and develop our own gun players instead of trading for already made players.

how good will it feel in a few years time when you hear names like naitanui and swift and masten being called up to get there premiership medals and knowing that we drafted them and developed these players into guns.

LeCras for Roughhead - Hmmmmmm, Yes
McKinlay for Yarran - Yes
Brown for Nathan Bock - Yes
Hurn for Luke Hodge - Yes
Cox for Sandilands - No
Spanger for Andrew Walker - Doesn't really matter.

To put it in perspective

Waters - Glass - MacKenzie
S.Selwood - Bock - Butler
A.Selwood - Hodge - NDS
Embley - Kennedy - Rosa
Yarran - Roughie - Q.Lynch
Cox - GAJ - Kerr

Ebert - Masten - Seaby - Anyone else

That would be a premiership contender.

Q Stick, Roughie & Kennedy would all kick 50+ with service from GAJ, Kerr, Hodge & NDS.

Yes for all with the exception of Cox, and a strong think about LeCras

The Masten, Spangher and McKinley ones though are a bit too early yet

The law of averages (and stuff) sudgests that not all of our kids are actually going to make it, so the more speculative ones at this stage could be up for discussion. Notte, Scooter, Naita, Shuey, Smith, Jones etc... regardless of the reason they are all specualtive atm. In relation to the other kids we have I mean.

Tough to say 'No' - you do all those and we'd hypothetically have a premiership side. Indiviually, each trade wouldn't have that much appeal - Add GAJ to out team and we only improve to a top 8 side, while Nat represents the promise of being major players in 3-5 years if all stays healthy and develops as expected. DO all those trades, and we're in the running right now! Would keep Cox over Sandy and do all the rest.

NicNat for Garry Ablett - Yes
Swift for Nic Dalsanto - No
Masten for Rhyse Palmer - No
LeCras for Roughhead - If we had Gablett YES if not NO
McKinlay for Yarran - YES

Just how much do you value our young guns?
Hypothetically would you trade:
Yes or No?
NicNat for Garry Ablett no
Swift for Nic Dalsanto NO!
Masten for Rhyse Palmer no
LeCras for Roughhead NO, NO, NO!!!
McKinlay for Yarran Possibly, but no, not for BennyMac
Brown for Nathan Bock no
Hurn for Luke Hodge No
Cox for Sandilands No
Spanger for Andrew Walker
yes and no

NicNat a no coz if he works on his basics, he could revolutianise rucking and AFL as we know it
NO! DSanto for Swift coz he's not gunna be a star... he's gunna be a SUPERNOVA! (& feel free to bring this thread back up in 10yrs so that every1 can give me congrats on all of my wisdom)
Masten for Palmer... both about equal... a pointless trade.
Lecca for Roughie, maybe when hell freezes over!
McKInl(E)y for yarran. maybe but i think he's a keeper, just needs consistency. But yarran could fill the MASSIVE hole left by Lecca in the fwd line
Brown looks the goods.. so no again
Hurn for Hodge, NO. Hawks supporters would also say no but they'd be lying! Who wouldn't want him? He will be Goddard x 10 nxt yr!
No to Sandilands for Cox, as he is a much more proven player and i love him
Spangher for Walker... well if he wants to leave, then sure, p*ss off!... if not, No, he could become Glassy's replacement

No no no no no and the word is no no no no no.

So basically turn over a fair section of our best or most promising young players.

Upset the balance of our squad and team chemistry, to aim at success now rather than success in the future? No thanks.

I will happily say no and keep all our players on that list.

NicNat for Garry Ablett- NO
Swift for Nic Dalsanto- NO
Masten for Rhyse Palmer- HELL NO
LeCras for Roughhead- NO
McKinlay for Yarran- YES

NicNat for Garry Ablett - Nor[/quot)e]
(Naitanui is a ruckmen, cant compare them but Naits looks like being a very good player for us, perhaps he might end up one of greats.)

Swift for Nic Dalsanto - No
(I really like Dal Santo but i would not trade him for Swift, he is three years away from producing his best, on the glimpes he has shown i would not swap him for anything).

Masten for Rhyse Palmer - No
(Masten has better disposal, i would prefer him. Masten was really looking like a weapon).

LeCras for Roughhead - No (just on looks)
McKinlay for Yarran - Perhaps
Brown for Nathan Bock - No (just on form/ age)
Hurn for Luke Hodge - No (both are backmen and Hurns better)
Cox for Sandilands - No (Cox is the best ruck in the comp)
Spanger for Andrew Walke - Yes (Gimme)

ablett, dalsanto kerr and hodge in midfield with sandiland tapin down thier throats roughhead, kennedy and yarran draft jedda with pick 6 as our fowardline. bock, glass mackenzie down back .
we win at least 3 premierships in next 4 years

Then fail to win another for 30 years after being suspended from the AFL due to salary cap rorts !

Geez I would trade Ablett for NickNat in a heartbeat. We're talking about a 25 year old midfielder in the prime of his career, a superstar. The only thing is we'd be lacking in ruck depth should we trade Seaby with Cox getting older. That is no knock on Naita who will be a star, but the obsession with youth goes a little too far sometimes.

Swift for Nic Dalsanto- that one I'm not so sure about. I'd prefer to keep Swift, the fact that he even played football regularly this year, and had a big impact in the late season games, is incredible.

Masten for Rhyse Palmer- Wouldn't even look at it twice. I think Palmer is a solid player, but Masto will certainly be better, his kicking and handball is superb when he gets space, and his work in close is excellent as well after suffering OP. Will be even better next year.

LeCras for Roughhead- Nope

McKinlay for Yarran- I think I would probably do that, Yarran hasn't shown a lot so far but we all know what he can do.

Brown for Nathan Bock- Prefer to keep Browny.

Hurn for Luke Hodge- Nope, I think Hurn really started to impact games massively this year, is almost the best kick in the league and will only get better. Hodge is great though.

Cox for Sandilands- Why would you trade the best ruckman in the league for the second best? I'll stick with the 4-time AA (would have been 5 times if he wasn't injured this year, shame)

Spanger for Andrew Walker- Yeah I would probably do that, I like the look of Walker.

Traitor:thumbsd:.:p

Ok I will admit it, I am now officially a tragic.

I just cannot bare the thought of trading one of our players away, especially a potential young star like Naita.

Hopefully in 3 years time, if someone proposed this trade or talked about it in retrospect you will say "heck no" or the equivalent Quinz.

We have almost always drafted and developed our own talent, especially midfield stars.

Gary Ablett is the best going around at the moment no doubt. So call it delusional if you will but I would rather hold onto Naitanui in the hope that if he reaches his full potential he may turn into the next Cox and trust the development staff and coaches, can help a Swift, Shuey or Masten become a serious top rung midfielder, maybe even a great of the club.

We have drafted and developed some serious talent in our short history and yes this success is also because of the players themselves, but I cannot remember the Eagles having to trade for a marquee midfielder and willingly offering to give up serious young talent we did not already want to/had to trade.

Ok that may sound a little nauseating, or fanciful, but I am sticking to it:D.

It's a hypothetical you clown. :D

Obviously the situation would never eventuate, geelong would ask for much more and we would be unwilling to give it up. But seriously, I would take a proven superstar over a potential superstar at the moment (I'm talking supersuperstar, not Nick Dal Santo), he would lift the performance of our team a heap.

Bare in mind he's pretty much the only player I would give up naita for.

But yes, I trust our club will get it right with development again, as they have in the past. It's all part of supporting the greatest club in the land. :)
