Not only do you have to put up with the watermark, (about time the movie studios objected to the branding and alteration of their product) they now have those annoying little ads in the left corner during the movie, as if the existing misplaced ads don't annoy enough.

But what really gets my goat is when an ad comes on they have their 5 colour promo incorporating part of the movie. Often a part of the movie that has not yet occurred, tonight for example they have Will Smith in his underwear leaping from balcony to balcony a full half hour before that particular scene occurs, ridiculous.

Station branding is a **** anyway, but I will refuse to watch the 9.30 chat show Monday night in protest. Pity I handed back the peoplemeter to ACNeilsen making my protest relatively worthless but as long as it makes me feel better.

Agree with the ad coming onto the corner of the screen during a movie/show being particularly annoying. Channel 10 have done this at times in the past but it seems to becoming more prevalent now.

Also agree about the obsession (especially Channel 7) with station branding. Is there anyone out there who seriously would be more likely to watch a channel more because they have a funky 'brand'? Anyway, apart from news, people choose what they watch by the show itself, not which station is on.

Interesting to know somebody who used to have a ACNeilsen reader. Tell me, during a quarter-hour period, if you were constantly flicking between three stations during that period, how could the reader define which show you were watching?

All the commercial channels are crap - I'm always amazed that they can't run to time.

Re annoying mini ads - I''d like to see someone put a submission to the Australian Broadcasting Authority about this - they are ads and there are time limits for the amount of ads shown - I wonder if they are breaching these limits?

Ditto for station promos - which are ads too, technically.

The watermarks are a pain in the arse.

If I watch say the Late Show when I get home from work there will be a CBS logo, a channel 9 logo and then WIN put their own logo over the top of the other two. Makes a ****en mess of the top corner of the screen.

There used to be an ad years ago about not putting too many stickers on your car windows, something along the line, you wouldn't do it to your TV would you (shot of TV with stickers).

Guess what, it has happened.

After you flick, within 30 seconds a light starts flashing, you have to press ok otherwise it is no longer recording. I believe it took the station that you watched the longest in that 15 minutes.

I hate it how Channel Seven promote all their other shows when the credits are rolling and you want to see who was in the show, hear the theme song, etc.

Aww, I don't wanna watch it, but heck...Brett Lee is on there...mmm :D

I guess Prime isn't as bad as what you describe Seven as. I watched TV for a couple of days while I was in Melbourne in January, and it did seem to be a lot more 'self-revolved', if you like, than what our Prime is.

You had a peoplemeter too? Why the **** would you wanna keep one of those anyway? :D We had one of those for 18 months, goddamn stupid thing...

I thought it was after ten minutes it was no longer recording?

Or maybe that's when the whole thing stopped working. Either way, after ten minutes it sends no data back to them...tis what the guy told us, anyway!

The problem is that they aren't. Self-promotion doesn't count as advertising time - but it should.

I guess that's the point when it's "commercial" TV.

Let's face it it's a fine balancing act.

Ideally, the networks would like to run commercials 24/7.
But then noone would watch.

Ideally we'd like shows on 24/7 and no commercials.
But then noone would pay for it.

So it's a game of push and shove. The networks will keep pushing to see how much they can get, until we tell them to get stuffed by not watching or by writing letters. I don't think we get far by complaining on Bigfooty.

Write to the ABA!

Well put and case closed. Thats what it comes down to in the end.

I think it's wrong to have ads on pay tv.

Channel 7 is crud.

I can't think of a single program I watch on the station :o

edit: I forgot Home and Away, but we all know the only reason that show is still alive is Alf Stewart
