Fu Manchu... when I've recommneded them to others or played them at work/parties etc, always had positive and enthusiastic feedback.

If you're talking current bands that are still together, then based on what you have listed that are your all time favs i think you possibly might find something to enjoy in bands like The Butterfly Effect, Cog, Incubus or Shihad. IMO they feature some more than solid musicianship with some nice musical ideas who are also terrific live, their songwriting does reach above mediocrity in many moments and the majority of their recordings are really well produced.

I've always thought The Offspring were very underrated. They produce great lyrics, and Noodles is one of the most underrated guitarist going around. It's punk that packs a lot of punch.

At-The Drive In is another great (Former) band to get into. Some of their line-up have now gone onto the successful band called Mars Volta.

Incubus are another good listen ,and just like The Offspring, they are underrated.

From At The Drive In, the songs I would recommend because I like them are:

Initiation - from Acrobatic Tenament
Napoleon Solo - from In Casino Out
Lopsided - from In Casino Out
Translantic Foe - from In Casino Out
Hullahoop Wounds - from In Casino Out
Metronome Arthritis - from Vaya
198d - from Vaya
Arcarsenal - from Relationship of Command
Pattern Against User - from Relationship of Command
One-armed Scissor - from Relationship of Command
Invalid Litter Dept - from Relationship of Command

:thumbsu:

If you're going to get in to At the Drive In, perhaps you should start with the complilation of some of their best tracks - This Station is Non-Operational. Listen to that and you should be in to them in less than a day. Then there's In Casino Out, and Acrobatic Tenemant amonst others.

From the above listed, what are good songs? cheers.

From Fu Manchu, my personal faves are :

Squash That Fly
King of the Road
Weird Beard
The Bargain
The Falcon Has Landed

Along those lines, maybe Monster Magnet are worth checking out too...

Slvt Machine
Radiation Day
The Right Stuff (a Hawkwind cover)
Heads Explode
Spacelord

Grab some AUSSIE stuff, as some others have put down. There's some AWESOME Oz Rock going around atm: Cog, Karnivool, Butterfly Effect, Shihad. All amazing live, too.

I agree that they are awesome and are indeed amazing live. :thumbsu:

But while we would be only too happy to claim them, they will definitely be the first ones to tell ya that they are very much New Zealanders mate! ;)

Ahh, yes, my apologies.
But they are BASED in Melbourne....

I saw Butterfly Effect the other day, am I right in thinking this band started off playing numetal? I expected way different to what I saw, not very hard hitting songs. Wouldnt see them again.

Last Friday at the HiFi Bar? Was there too. We coulda had a beer together Vandal!! ;)

And while i think they hate being labelled "Nu", their early stuff was extremely derivative of bands like Deftones and A Perfect Circle. Their first Ep was anyway.

"Begins Here" which was their first LP had heavy moments and defintely had a hint of NU-ness, but the latest is a huge departure (and progression) from that. Yeah, its alot more mellow and textured than earlier efforts, and took a little longer to get into but it has been well worth the effort and is easily my favourite Oz release of 2006.

Nah bugger it! I was itching for one too!

They were apprently in the midst of reinventing themselves as a synth-viking metal band but then realised that they didnt have the sense of humour to pull it off.

Then someone told them that alot of those blokes were actually serious, so they just gave it away all together.

:D yeah it was last Friday at the HiFi Bar, damn beers there are a ripoff. Reckon I ended up paying more for beers than my ticket.
How bad was that support band with the Lee Harding lookalike singer? Absolutlely woeful :thumbsd:

They were as bad as their name suggests they'd be.

I mean who the f*ck calls themselve's "The Repeat Offenders" and expects to be taken seriously?!?

I've experienced how hard it can be to take a stage in front of someone else's crowd before, but i swear when that bloke tried to get the crowd to clap along or razz up the crowd to mosh to their try-hard heavy bits with the whole "i heard Melbourne was a party town" bullsh*t, i nearly launched an incredibly over-priced half finished bottle of Becks at his head!!

Between the singer, the rampant toolio on bass and the guitarist who looked looked like he belonged in The Strokes, they all looked like they'd spent far too much time in front of their mirrors. And i knew something bad was brewing when the drummer came out for soundcheck wearing his scarf. FFS!

Did you see the band before them though with the front dude in the wheelchair? The White Room was their name, and i admit really didnt know what to make of it at first. Not often you see a heavish band with a singer/guitarist tearing around the stage on wheels!! But i thought he was a great singer and decent player and the band was super tight.

Yeah, when I saw a guy in a wheelchair take the stage I had no idea what to expect, but he could do it all, he could play, sing and still had good stage presence.
The Repeat Offender douches should of watched and learned. You should of thrown your bottle at them, mine wouldn't of been fair behind! Watching them I just thought the underage kids are probably going to love these jokes.
