I saw an interesting thread on the Essendon board about what they got right at the start of the year and what they got wrong about certain issues at the club.

Right

I thought Kelvin Moore should be kept on the list because of his height and athleticism and would be a handy defender... Turns out he's more then handy

Cotchin was the right choice ... It's clear enough I'd say.

We're no good with Richo as a forward. We've looked a lot better this year with Richo on the wing.


Wrong

McMahon should have never been brought to the club. I think it's safe to say Jordie has had a good season and has given us a lot of drive off HB.

We would make the finals ... It's still a chance but at this stage I'd say it's still a long shot.

Pettifer would have an improved season...

King isn't as good as everyone thought (although still could prove me wrong )
Hyde would be dropped throughout the year (gees I'm good )
That our list is better than Essendon and Fremantle's

Wrong:
Tivendale, Petiffer, JON and Casserley would become/stay as first's regulars
Tambling would would gun it and come B+F top 5
We don't have a forward line without Richo (although I was very happy with the Morton pick-up, and had a feeling he'd be a gun)

- Stating pre-draft we should take Putt, Rance and Gourids.
- JON wouldn't have the break out season Terry promised
- Richo's spot in the team shouldn't have been questioned
- Polak still wouldn't have found a position by the end of the year (albiet cut short)

Wrong:
- I was disgusted when Moore was kept on the list- he's right up their with my fav players now
- Morton wouldn't have a great impact this year
- Couglan would have played seniors footy by now.
- I said we should have taken Cale Morton not Cotchin pre-draft
- Pettifer would have kicked 40+ goals this year and been a captaincy contender in 09'

- McMohan trade

When you say you thought we should recruit Rance, did you mean at #18 or #2?

- That Foley would have a quieter year than last due to increased attention
- That we would start to see Wallace's long-term planning pay dividends
- That McMahon would get a lot of ball and give us a lot of run off halfback (has been in my DT all year)

Wrong
- That Polo would step up and really shine (he can still prove me right :crossfingers: )
- That we would see more of Angus Graham in the seniors

Yet to be seen, but...
- That we would win at least 11 games (hadn't accounted for draws)

- better to finish closer to the bottom that finish 9th
- Jackson is a waste of time
- Pettifer, Tivendale, Hyde were all on borrowed time
- Tuck had an injury in 2007 and hence was not at his best... and would revert back to becoming indespensible
- Meyer and Hughes deserve more time after injury hit years
- Tambling is the biggest protected specey at our club
- Cotchin greater than Kreuzer, Masten and Morton
- St.Kilda and Fremantle were both terribly overrated sides
- Lloyd is the most overrated so-called champion the game has ever seen

Wrong

- Kane Johnson was finished. I was right on the shit captain side of things, but he showed how valauble he can be and IS in our best 22.
- Kelvin Moore was finished
- Nathan Brown wouldnt be able to win games for us anymore
- The Jordan McMahon trade would be a good thing for the club

- Tuck is not that good, can't kick, goes in hard but shocking disposal and decision making and won't last. (How good has he been the last few weeks..wayyyy better kick of the footy these days, and doesn't seem so stupid on the field anymore)

Tuck is a valuable player.
McGuane will make it.
Deledio will keep getting better.
Simmons was our biggest loss in 2007.
Riewoldt will be good.

Wrong:
Pettifer will get even better.
Tivendale is a valuable player.
Richo won't make a good midfielder.
Foley likely to have a big drop-off in production.
Not worth perservering with Schultz.
Edwards will be a star in 2008 - Hopefully, I was only a year or two early.

Hughes is too slow for senior footy. If he is getting caught now and constantly spoiled then imagine how it will be when he gets older and slows down!
