just a random late night idea. he has good size and athletic ability, it's just his decision making in our backline that's letting him down. would he be better as a forward?

i've never got the idea that ibbo has very good goal sense. Doesn't kick many goals even when playing on the ball.

That and he is soft as butter - but that hurts you in any position cept running off the half back flank.

Was recruited to play midfield, wing, would prefer that he be given a go in that position, than halfback.
Could possible play Pav's role in the midfield, or rotate wing/halfback with Hill, Broughton..

Ibbo has been very decent down back.

I laugh at those mocking him, I'd rather him in than Suban or Duffield on current form.

Spot on. With Suban injured/iffy form and Duffield in some sort of altered state of being at the moment (I don't know where he's at) and Hayden constantly breaking legs, Ibbo has probably been our most creative rebounding defender and has generally done OK.

He has jumped fwd on very odd occasions. He's a good kick at goal and fairly good overhead, but as others have said, he doesn't seem to have that natural goal sense. I would like to see him more on the wing, but he's needed more back and that's probably where he should stay.

I think Ibbo has been doing pretty good in the backline. I'm a bit more forgiving than some about the odd brainfade, he's starting to show a bit more class, and is allowing Broughton to run in the midfield.

He started out at HF for us, and he was utter shit. There is nothing wrong with how he's been going down back.

He seems slow witted gennerally, but quite often he does a very desperate tackle or he will hit a loose ball extremely hard. Keep an eye on him, he is actually really suited to the hbf role.

His 1-2 brain fades a game just kills him though. He would actually be a very good player if he could iron them out

Ibbo is fine right where he is.

Duffman is the person to get up forward on Yarran, possibly. At least Duff could possibly make him accountable by booting a few.

I reckon that's not a bad idea. He's not going to be exposed like he would in the back 50, and if Yarran decides to play loose, Duffield is capable of making him accountable, kind of like Mayne v Goddard last week.

Throw Hill on Yarran and strangle Carlton of his drive.

Yarran has obviously been given free reign to run out of defence and take as many risks as he wants.

Duff aint defensive enough for me in the back line, let alone the forward line.

Hill would give Yarran one hell of a fright, he ahs the pace to go with him and the smarts to kick goals ...also it would be unexpected and casue at least one little match day shock for Ratts.

I've rode him a bit over recent seasons but I stated not so long ago he's been going about his business without too much fuss.
When we are losing and a player is 'not' getting a lot criticism here, then he must be doing ok.
Not much escapes us keyboard warriors.
Leave him there down back. He's become a player that is winning more than he's losing in his position.

ibbo has been good down back, id leave him...

however... if mark nicoski can play a defensive half forward role, then anyone can, ibbo would probably go down there and kick 12

I'm happy with Ibbotson down back, but he shouldn't be taking the kick-ins and/or used to set-up the play coming out of defense. He's not even close to creative enough. Just give that responsibility to Hill now that he's playing down back. Better yet, give it backto Duffield, so he can at least contribute something.

Ultimately, if Ibbotson's to become the player we all thought he could be, I think he needs to start playing more through the midfield. Suban is in the same boat, he needs more time on-ball.

I don't know WTF is going on with Duffield. If he isn't winning the ball he's a complete liability in defense. Sadly, no matter where he plays at the moment, he just can't get near the ball; maybe he's developed an allergy or something.

Yup, keep him down back

Would rather have him off the half-back flank than duffield or Mzungu at this stage

Ibbo over Duffield on form and over Mzungu due to Zu's excellence in the middle

There was talk of Ibbo going to the mid/wing but I think Mzungu has pipped him for that. Ditto Broughton. As with SNOS, Grover, McPharlin, Suban and Ibbo, that leaves only room for one more player in the backline and if we rotate Mzungu, Duffield and Broughton through the middle/forward line then I'm okay with that

Yeah I can't figure him out, I was at the game on Friday night and watched him closely. Doesn't seem to be doing anything lazy or of that sort, in a really bad patch.

Yeah with Duffield there is no lack of effort, just not finding the ball

When the position you throw players who can't get their hands on the ball is off the half-back flank, where do you throw a player who is on the half-back flank who can't get the ball?

A lot of people are forgetting he was primed for an inside midfield role this season before injuring his ankle a week or two prior to round 1. I thought his game against the Saints was easily one of his best this season, playing the majority of the game on the ball. His major weakness is his decision making and is prone to the odd shank which I think you can get away with in the midfield if you find enough of the ball/win enough clearances. (See Boyd, Mitchell, Scotty T, Judd).
