ID 2010 Final - New Whip Rules

Hypothetically Speaking...................................

The field for the ID 2010 Final turn into the straight at Menangle for the final run to the judge.

Smoken up has lead from the gate with Blacks A Flake sitting at his wheel for most of the race, Washakie peels from the 1 x 1 after surrendering to the three time champ, Bondy sits on the back of Smoken up awaiting a peg run. Down the outside thunders Monkey King with his trademark sprint.

Drivers do everything they can to give their charge a lift, Five horses cross the line together with centimetres separating them.

Upon review of the tape we note that the drivers of the first three horses across the line have used the whip with a free hand, contravening the new laws. Stewards in this state have already upheld two objections (lodged by themselves) in favour of horses who have remained within the rules.

What happens next?........................................................................

As a punter I would like to know the answer prior to placing my bets because I am confident under the pressure and lure of the biggest pay day in the sport at least one of the drivers will use a free hand in order to possibly get something more out of his charge.

What do you reckon?

Interesting hypothosis. But will be irrelevent when Monkey King wins quite easily in the final!

The only certainty is that if you back the winner,dont be expecting to collect in a hurry.

At least NSW have shown they will enforce the rules.
We have had a recent situation where ours was beaten by 0.1 metres by a horse whose driver was later fined for incorrect use,
hitting his 8 times.Stewards didn't protest & we have no comeback as we didnt protest before correct weight.
Not that we had any idea as obviously we were watching ours & were unaware until we saw the replay that the other driver had openly cheated.

Have spoken to stewards & they admit theres an anomaly.....no kidding
Was several K difference in prizemoney so you can be assured every owner will be glued to the replay before correct weight

Slightly symantec but the new rules are Australia wide.

Only the interpretations and penalties being applied are different.

Will the NSW Stewards have the courage to lay an objection in the biggest race of the year if the circumstances are there?

Given the current set up, do you have time to look at the replay before all clear is declared - pretty tight.

Secondly, how do you get to the driver to notify him to lodge the protest before all clear is declared, not like the gallops where you can have a chat before weighing in.

In both cases the Stewards lodged (and upheld) their own objection. I probably can't see any trainer or driver putting one in.

Thats why we approached them,if they are not going to at least look before declaring all clear,they need to allow others to do so.

Id say any driver who thinks he's been cheated of his % of 650K would be keen to test the waters

I was actually sitting in the stands on Friday night at Melton and Andy was seated next to me (I don't know him, simply a coincidence).

He seemed more worried about getting back to give Kate blast for going for home too early!

Thats the issue,it has to happen to you before you realise theres nothing you can do until its too late.
Different to a photo finish error like the Cranbourne Cup,you've got a week to appeal.

If they keep it unchanged its a matter of time til an owner protests,serious prizemoney difference in a metro race
