Inter: 200cm 185cm 180cm 180cm

Pretty much 180cm and about 75-80kg for runners, 185/80-90 for flankers, 195/90-100 for KPP and 200/100+ for rucks. Think you should also have a ruck, a flanker and 2 runners on the bench. Of course these figures are based on short people being quick, you'd always take a taller person if they are the same speed and ability.

Ruck rover (at 17 & 1/2 years of age.):

Club: Kyabram/Murray
DOB: 18 April 1987 Hgt: 188cm Wgt: 81kg
Position: Onballer
Natural Foot: Right

Not bad WestCat.

FB - 192cm/94kg. Not too heavy so can't be beaten on the lead. Example: Scarlett, who else?
BP - 178/83. Small, nimble, good tackler. Example: Chris Johnson.
CHB: 194/98. Big, focal point who doesn't have to have the same sprinting capability as the FB. Example: Leppitsch, or a taller Maguire.
HBF/HFF. 187/89. Quick, but fairly good overhead. Able to run in midfield when not on their flank. Example: Steve Johnson.
CHF: Take your pick. Either a Riewoldt type 192/94 player or a Carey style 192/100 style tank.
FF: Ablett was only 186 cms, but a freak, Richardson is 198 I think. It depends on whether you want speed or power. Dunstall was probably gifted with the perfect FF's body.
Ruckman: 202/106. Big, tough, able to take good marks. Example: Darcy, King, Primus. An alternative would be Jeff White but he's a freak.
Midfielder: 186/90. Voss. Enough said.

KPPs need to be mobile and generally you find players over 194 not to have the gait to be efficient runners. Need a third tall both back and forward but not overly tall. The days of the small forward hasn't ended as yet and in most cases you need a small defender to play on players of this ilk. Ruckmen need to be over 199cm to be tall enough in the centre square where their run-up will be limited under the new ruck rules. Backup rucks need to be mobile enough to fill a KPP if required and to be able to create play around the ground when resting. All Kpps should be over 94kgs.

as the game keeps on developing you can start to see the changes in the ideal height and weight.

I would say now that th ideal height for a midfielder would be a very athletic 185cm+.

You only have to look so far as player like Judd,Pavlich,Bruce
All up and comers, who have alreay acheived some wonderfull goals.
Looking at players dimensions coming out of the past couple of drafts we can see AFL clubs are now seaching for bodies like this.

So lets just get rid of the Luke Balls,Shane Crawfords,Ben Cousins,Robert Harveys,Peter Bells,Smat Mitchells,Brent Harveys,Daniel Kerr,Micahel Voss's,Roger James's,Byron Schammers,David Rodans,Mark Jhonsons,Brent Hartigans etc etc etc and the list goes on, smart thinking 99.

the topic was ideal height, as mentioned ideal height for a full forward would be around 192cm however ablett was 186cm yet still dominated. Same as ideal height for an onballer is around 185cm these days however there is more to being a gun player than simply height as proved by those players you listed.
