Hi guys which of these programs are better as I currently use IE.
Can some of you guys give me some detailed info for good and bad for both or is IE simply better much appreciated. I'm not a computer nerd at ALL complete the opposite.:thumbsu:

With IE you need to upgrade to the latest version to have things working your way.

Firefox you have to upgrade gradually with the components and it can be annoying because you can't really see a lot of videos and that sort of things.

So I would stay with IE because you have everything that you want when you want it. You only have to download it when it is time for an upgrade and it is only the one download.

Firefox for mine. Much better looking, easier to use. I find IE crashes a lot more than Firefox.

I don't think the updating is a problem, because if you want to you can skip updates for some firefox add-ons. But with the add-ons you can do so much more which makes it that much better than IE.

I also find that Firefox loads faster.

IE generously allows viruses and malicious websites access to your core operating system.

Firefox does not.

Why is this? It's a little thing called "ActiveX". ActiveX is native to Interent Explorer and is the piece of software which allows seamless integration between the web browser and Windows itself. This is great when well-meaning companies and developers want to launch external apps through the browser or install little things through the browser which enhance your experience, however, when a hacker or malicious website wants to know which emails you received this morning, which websites you've visited in the last few days, how big your Windows pagefile is and whether or not you keep your passwords on your PC in text files, then AcitveX becomes a bit TOO giving.

Firefox has an ActiveX plugin which you can download and install, but I've never wanted it.

Sure, IE7 is quite an improvement on IE6, but the core idea of integration between browser and OS is still there and as hackers find more and more holes in the application, Micrsoft has to release more and more fixes. The very thing which allowed them browser dominance is gradually destroying it.

There have been a few holes found in Firefox, however, because Firefox is an isolated application and malicious code cannot get outside the Firefox app to attack the operating system, the security threats are minimal in impact (and are fixed very quickly my the Mozilla Foundation anyway).

There are precious few websites I access which have a problem with Firefox. Even the AFL website (arguably the very worst website on the planet Earth) seems to work OK if you're happy to give Firefox a good refresh every now and then when it fails to load the stinking sess pit that is "Bigpond TV" (it usually works first or second go).

Firefox is also more configurable than IE. Any FIrefox users out there, just have a look at the following site:

about:config

Just type that in your address bar, have a look at the explanations here:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/tips

You can speed up downloads and connections on some websites (enable multiple streams of data from the single browser) as well as enable the address bar even when a site pops up a window which has it disabled (my personal favourite). There are a LOT of others too.

Firefox also runs on Linux, HP-UX, Solaris, AIX (I think) and MacOS.

Firefox for my money.

Firefox is far superior to IE for everyday use IMO. The add ons are great and the bookmarking is far easier to navigate. It has some excellent plugins.

That said I have to use IE7 for work (on-line data entry), so the bias towards IE, especially by Aussie companies, is still present. It goes ok, it's just more convoluted to operate.

I also use Netscape Navigator 9, which is basically just Firefox, but I have it set up to automatically run different macros and the like.

Safari 3 is fast and generally pretty good, but I can't scroll on my lap top, and has a number of other minor irritating quirks.

Opera is on my cumputer, but I don't know why.

So yeah; Firefox.

why would anyone use IE? firefox is easier, better looking, safer

and i can just look at the bottom corner of my screen to find out the weather

As someone in the IT industry, I use Firefox almost exclusively. I have converted others to Firefox and most have reported less problems using it. Firefox conforms to the W3 standards better than ie.

Also, Firefox has a lot of extensions that improve your surfing experience.

Get Firefox, it will be the best move you've made.

I also would suggest Firefox.

The strange thing is that my employer has got Firefox/Mozilla blocked at my work. FF did its automatic update and then restarted with its welcome page but it came up as a blocked site. I have no idea why this is but they have some issues with using non-Microsoft programs. I don't want to name my employer but they employ several hundred staff across several locations - so it's not some small operator.

Firefox for sure, once i made the conversion from IE i have never looked back.

Easier to use and looks a lot better.

Um lets see...

IE - so many holes in the program, activeX allows a hacker to break straight into your computer through any website.
IE - because its integrated into the operating system, especially in vista, if you can break IE, you can break the operating system.

FF - for 3mb, can't complain, and its a thousand times better and safer to use than IE.

Firefox, for all the reasons listed so far.

Also make sure you install the Adblock add-on, pages load far quicker without those pesky advertisement images and flash content.

Funny thing is that E4M is asking for opinions. On here everyone has a right to have an opinion.
If I think that Firefox is shit then that's my opinion. Others can make up their own minds.
