Roosy is being HEAVILY courted by a Vic club? Nothing out of the ordinary.

But I'm interested in the thoughts of the many on here that seem unhappy with him. Would you be happy for him to pull the plug at years end, such is the nature of his contract according to Colless on the weekend.

Colless more or less said (in a radio interview prior to the game) that with Roosy, a contract wouldn't mean anything if he was ready to move on, such is his standing at the club.
Could this happen next year. A few on here would be wrapt!

Your thoughts!

i really dont think that roosy would leave the team which he built and a club that he loves at their time of greatest need. he will stick around and rebuild for sure.

While i don't agree with some of Roos's coaching decisions (im sure everyone on this board could say that) i am happy for him to remain as coach of the Sydney Swans for the next few years.

That's exactly how I feel!
But................he has ALWAYS said that if the leaders tap him on the shoulder saying he had 'lost' some of the playing group, then he would hand over the reigns.

It's fair to say, with a well decorated ex player coming out & making club dividing comments about certain events, just days before the Inaugural Hall of Fame, that there must be some sort of rumblings coming out from within as well.

Something at the Swans is not sitting at equalibrium. Can't blame Roos for it but he has ALWAYS been a person that does the right thing for the club & for the leaders. He has never been one to take the glory but rather, he has had to do some dirty stuff of late, to try & keep the ship steady.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he passed on the reigns at years end. Things have changed since he agreed to coach until end of 2011!

he wont coach against the Swans, if he were to finish up he would probably go into the marketing of the Swans or junior coaching in Sydney

i would be saddened if he coached elsewhere, as this was the club he finished his career on a s player, and the club he has lead to a premiership and consecutive finals

i would be saddened if he left or was given the tap on the shoulder whilst contracted

but if he was to leave to the next phase of his life, it would be expected.... he's always stated that he never desired to be a career coach, and i'm sure he and his wife would wish to return to the States (US) at some point

if he left, it wouldn't be surprising..... but whilst he has had his critics at times (myself included).... no one wants to see him leave

But if the critics are right, then he has sacrificed the development of youngsters in order to make finals & try & be successfull.....................................does that make sense???

Mmmm! That's sort of what some of the anti Roos posters on here have been barking on about!!
And it makes no sense!!

most of those critics banging on about it aren't swans supporters

and those who question Roos's continual role in the side are truly short-sighted

the greatest pressure Roo's will face regarding his job, would be from the board, and i doubt the board has such a short memory

also i really doubt there are anti Roos posters... more anti Roos decision posters

I would be disappointed if Roos coached elsewhere.

Roos role at Sydney .. is .. different. It would appear to me that the coaching day duties are being carried out by Longmire and the assistants.

In saying that, a lot of the interchanges nowdays are clockwork. The players know when they are supposed to be on and off the ground before the match begins.

I want Roos to stay, and I am excited to see what he can do. Last time he grabbed a team, built a gameplan around their strengths and almost won back to back flags. This time, hopefully he can do it all over again.

I honestly think that Longmire & a few of his assistants (ex North team mates - Blakey & Allison) will be appointed as senior coaches next year in Victoria. The Kangas job is ripe for the picking & with Crocker looking after things there, it will be a great coup for the club. Ross Lyon has set the tone at the Saints & this is why I am almost certain we'll lose them.

So this leaves Roos looking for new assistants. Enter Leo Barry, Maxfield, etc, etc with perhaps Kirk taking over in years to come. Perhaps a whole new team of assistants will be brought in to freshen up the place for the players.
One thought I have had is that Buckley may even come & do an apprenticeship with us. We are after all the team that set the standards with regards to coaching & leadership qualities. The team that is unbeaten in 2009 thus far have taken the blueprint!

Just a few thoughts out of left field.
So basically I think Roos will be coach but there will be a whole new batch of assistants at the club to freshen things up.

One more thing...................................during the whole ROK trade week debacle, I remember being told (secondhand I might add) by someone that knew him, that he wasn't too chummy with Blakey, the forward coach.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold in the off season!
Cheers!

geez, howd this subject even come up? nearly as bad as the trade so and so threads..

Maybe that is why he has been moved into the midfield! :D

While I dont believe for a moment that Roosy is coaching just for the money, to consider one of the positions above would require a massive pay cut, so I expect you are joking. Especially when there are other clubs prepared to offer him much more than what he is earning now. It's a nice thought but not plausible.

I've been a South Melbourne/Sydney Swans supporter since I could walk, and my father before me. I've supported them during the years when they turned over coaches as often as the toilet paper was refilled, and believe me, that never brought any stability to the playing group or the club. He is an excellent coach. I've also had some wonders about certain decisioins, particularly the loss of Schneider to the Saints, and there are others, but I believe that Paul Roos is the best coach in the AFL. I'd be happy for him to become the Kevin Sheedy of Sydney. I want him to be coach of the Swans until he retires.

I'm with Tedeski, I reacon we'll see a new group of assistants before we see Roos go.

The Norths Boys will end up being head coaches somewhere... Maybe going back to Norths?

Promote Stuie Maxfield et al. from their development roles to assistant coaches and bring Leo, Magic, and Cap'n in to run the development programs. Between the three of them you have the field pretty much covered, Cap'n's an incredible leader, Magic'll still be able to work with the indigenous community as he says he wants to, and Leo will always have a Job at the swans.

Bring on the future gradually and in a way that swans supporters will approve of!
