I feel it will be our greatest premiership.

Everything we have been through this year (from 4th, injuries, MM bullshit, Cloke issue etc) to add on top of that a death of one of our (former) own.

PLUS #16 to tie, and officially become the greatest AFL team in history. (Total Grand Final Appearances)

I wasn't around from 1901-30. By all accounts '58 was pretty special in a period of dominance by Melbourne. '90 was the flag we had to have, 2010 was ours to lose.

But I think #16 will be our most hard fought and special. GO PIES

A game for the ages yes but not our best.

Timeslip:

It's 1958 and Norm Smith's mighty redlegs have been carrying all before them since '55. Collingwood has been a level below and the Dee's have the Pies 4pete record at their mercy and have steamed into the GF. Pies are a little bit back on skill and personnel but throw the kitchen sink AND the dishwasher at the Dee's to prevail and save our 4pete!

That was our finest ever moment on the G.

And Melbourne thrashed us in the first final too...;)

taking only the title and not the content.........

go back to round 8 vs geelong. after a bad start we'd strung a few wins together against poorer opponents and had the GF replay to contend with. challenged hard in the last we rebound and win nicely.
then round 9 vs adelaide. seemingly had them covered the whole night, except on the scoreboard. then apply the pressure and they cracked. run away for easy win.

if we win the next 2..................

I used to be called gothepies58 on another site because of that very reason and another one I liked was gotheport04 also for that very reason.:thumbsu:

Was thinking the exact same thing last night.

Would be one of the greatest flag wins in the AFL era as far as I'm concerned.

Worst injury list in the comp for 3/4 of the season.
New first year coach with entirely new coaching panel
Slow start to the year
Well below best for the entire year
Off field drama galore
Death of a very recent ex-team mate

Honestly, would be amazing.

Im not saying i haven't thought about this premise at all, but i wish this thread didn't exist.

Not because i don't like the OP or think it's in poor taste, i just don't want to get my hopes up at all.

All finals series, i've gone in with the mindset that we will be beaten each week, as a defense mechanism just in case we did lose.

Seeing this thread, i just makes me dream, and i don't want it to be crushed.

Someone, hold me.

Zen hugs mark, I too have had too many disappointments stretching back nearly 5 decades now.

Stay strong and believe in the boys to give of their best

The rest is in the hands of the footy gods

If anyone can pull it off then it's us, the mighty magpies!

Have always had confidence in 2012 and feel like Bucks has timed the team very well especially when all the disruptions are considered. Mid season had a flutter on the Pies at $3.30 top4, $4.50 to make the GF and $8.50 to win it. Hoping for happy days and we are a real chance

It would be a great one to win. Still 1990 was special for anyone who lived through all the GFs 60,64,66,70,77(x2),79,80 and 81. Personally I was at all the ones between 70 and 81, they still hurt so 90 was so good. I can still feel the rush every Collingwood supporter felt when Dougie Barwick kicked a goal in the last and we all realised that not even the greatest turn around of all time could take the flag away. Everyone just started going wild. Happy days, club got carried awat though after that , was too much to handle. That team should have won another flag. Pants loss hurt us so much also.

Why delude ourselves? The Hawks are far superior to any other team this year. You are basically hoping that something goes very wrong with them, as opposed to right with us. Their best is so much better it's not funny. We simply can't compete with them in open space.

A flag would be a miracle. Miracles however, do not happen anywhere near as much as you would like. Having high expectations is just setting you up for a let down. Low expectations means a different outcome is a bonus.

Hawks are a great team but not unbeatable, its just that those on their level have been down this year for various reasons.

We proved that we could beat them at their best last year at this time, believe me when I say the Hawks are quietly praying that the Swans roll us.

Not because they are afraid of us at our current level but they know that if we can find that 10% we are down from last year they will be in for one hell of a war.
