I gotta tell ya...I've long since been cool on latching Ben on to the bosom of Punt rd but when morning broke, I tip toed out in my Tiger Boxers grabbed the newspaper, unwravelled it and saw the font page drenched in Yellow & Black with what appeared to be superman in full flight I'm NOW convinced. Cuzz could be the ignition to really get punt Rd rocking in 2009...and if that's what it takes to restore the roar and propel the RFC into FINALS action then I'm all for it...:thumbsu:

The dude took a few drugs, and that may have been a problem for him. But heaps of people take drugs without all this crap raining down on them. Hell, the world is full of people with alcohol problems, but somehow (and even though alcoholism does *major* damage to people and those around them) a guy who takes coke, or whatever, is anathema.

I hope he is getting his life together, but without the whole media circus, he would have just been a dude taking some drugs in a club, and his drug-taking would have had zero impact on pretty much anything else.

The cynical vultures in the media are as much to blame for any public effects of drug taking as are the drug takers themselves.

Imagine the roar in about 100 days when Newman leads the pack, with Cuz walking directly behind him running through the banner with the Tigers song!

The hair on my neck is standing up already.

That first lace-out disposal to Jack on the lead, or the clearance to get Lids out in space.

Oh man, I'm in heaven right now. Please AFL, please don't ruin it. :D

I can't wait for it to happen, the first training session with Ben on our list will be buzzing! I'll be there.
 
same sentiment as you guys man, cant' wait.

i loved it yesterday when collingwood supporters rang into SEN and totally ripped into eddie mcguire. all they want is the not only play finals but win a premiership, and they can't believe collingwood decided not to pick up cousins. and now they're even more angry that eddie would try for someone else to pick him up.

Why not develop your own Ben Cousins?

I love the Tiges giving Cousins another but BUT ...comments like this are silly because you are appreciating him for what he achieved for another club. I dont understand Tiges fans loving the idea of him just putting on your jumper, when he puts it on he doesnt magically give you what he has achieved in the past. You get a 30rd old drug addict with bad hammys. He MAY well play some good games for you BUT dont start worshipping him yet just because he is wearing your jumper.

Just my POV anyway.

Exactly, what, 3 players in the AFL right now have tested positive twice. I dont see outrage at those players given more chances at playing AFL. Ben is actually on record as admitting to it and saying he will kick the habit, have the other players made similar pledges?

I've suddenly got a bad feeling about this though, just tonight.. I keep thinking of draft day and Essendon reading out the name "Ben Cousins" before us. I really think they might do it. :(

We already have a midfield that is the envy of other sides. Cotchin, Deledio, Foley...Ben is the the little husband-and-bride on top of the wedding cake. That's all.

Spot on, mate.

Lots of players get cut from lists because they are pissheads, but no one says that those players are "drug addicts", even though piss is a more insidious drug that causes more damage to the community than coke. Meanwhile, it's quite acceptable to choof down on a cigarette, even though that is a drug of addiction (and don't I know it) that is harmful to yourself in the long term.

Bizarre reasoning...

What's more, Fevola can act like a complete w***er in Ireland because he was blind and it's kind of OK, yet Cousins never did anything dodgy like that (as far as we know) because he took drugs.

The public perception about various substances is skewed, and the media takes advantage of that to sell more copy, like the cynical fcukers they are, and we lap it up.

I think sheedy put it the best he said on radio yesterday that a lot of people are paid big money at football clubs to make decisions. These people have become risk adverse because they have a lot to lose so its better to do nothing. or something to that effect.

Pretty sure Essendon ruled it out recently, would be very surprised if they do.

Shit, I hope not , but it's crossed my mind one of the other eligble clubs could be just sitting there quietly watching all this and laughing ...and now with a real possibilty of Cousins playing for another club , and seeing all the hype suddenly coming our way, not to mention the excitement it's created amongst our supporters, some might be starting to have second thoughts and are now thinking..."Well then, why not us?"

i would be pretty happy if we get cuz, how often do you get a guy that has got so much experience and would probably be cheap as well.

This gives us two possible outcomes - we pick him up and he plays well for us and he gets his career back on track- or it doesnt work and all we lose is abit of money. i think its pretty much a win win senario.

thats the thing Miss, the downside is less than people think, he hasnt cost us R1 and II selections, not will he cost 700k a year that he was on at WC...if he falls out of line it would be a clean cut and move on..I dont expect that would be the case though...he has something to prove
 
Next 3-4 days could be huge for the RFC:
1) The application is approved and we get the extra pick
2) New Sponsor is announced
3) We pick up Gourdis and Cousins in the PSD
