I'm stoked Lyon got to see first hand what he's truly taken on.

Our list has got gaping holes riddled through it.
-our midfield has no depth whatsoever.
-our list does not have one A-grade extractor(Hayes, mitchell, selwood,Kerr types)
-our list does not have any young key forwards to call upon.
No crumbers (Walters may be to slow, crozier may be - not ready)

Still a few more years of rebuilding to go IMO.

Sadly, pav, maca and sandi ain't going to be playing off in a GF.

Today was obviously disappointing. Going from the Gold Coast to Perth then down to Tassie on a six day break is a tough draw though, I'm going to wait a few weeks before reaching for the panic button.

On each of your points -
1) Our entire midfield has been replaced in 4 years, a lack of depth was always going to be an issue this year and probably next.
2) We have beaten a side featuring Hayes and Selwood this year.
3) Obviously. But the club is aware of the issue and looked to fix that problem last trade week and will do so again at seasons end. Even if we had gone tall in last years draft it's unlikely those players would have had an impact during Pav/McPharlin/Sandilands career. Hawkins got it together on Grand Final day last year after being really inconsistent and that was his 5th season in the system.
4) Not sure you can complain about us not drafting enough talls and also say we have no crumbers. It illustrates how much of a gamble the draft is since we've gone for so many small/medium forwards and flankers in the last 4 or 5 drafts.

There will be depth next year when Sheridan and Crozier are AFL ready. Menangola also looks good but is on the rookie list, and Pitt has looked good in flashes.
Fyfe and an in form Mundy and Barlow are A grade extractors IMO
Our key forwards stocks are light, but Clarke is doing okay as a ruck / forward for his stage in his career
Ballantyne and Neale are crumber types -it is just that they are being required to prop up the midfield ATM.

Can't agree with you on mundy & Barlow being extractors.

Certainly was a wake up call for Lyon and the new assistant coaches. The first half was typical Freo 2007-9, and 2011. Habits are very, very hard to break! As soon as they get put under pressure, they go back to what they know best, i.e. handballing 1 metre to a player in a worse position, not working hard, kicking points, handballing to a players feet etc...

Speaking of working hard, last night I watched Pendlebury and was amazed at the ground that he covered and how many contests he got to just by running, and running and running and also by having the nouse of knowing where to run. We currently don't have anyone like this in the side. It was a good call by Lyon pre-season to highlight that guys like Fyfe need to become our Pendlebury etc.

The same midfield that wasn't up to scratch today, belted them in a final in '10. You win some, you lose some.

Still a long way to go, but on our day we can knock off anyone we're up against. We're 5-3 after playing Sydney, Carlton, Geelong, St Kilda, Hawthorn. The draw is about to get alot easier.

I reckon harder. Duckers,crows, tiges(a),bombers,pies(a).

I agree, I'm glad he had to sit through that. A lot to chew on and it won't be easy digesting. Intrigued to see what he takes note of and what steps he takes.

when you beat a team like GC by 7 points the writing was always going to be on the wall for the hawks game. I am happy that Lyon will now be aware how soft and insipid we can be.

How we can show up on the field but not be there mentally.
How the midfield completely lacks any hardness and the defence like wise.
How noone in the forward line can take an overhead mark.
How our ruckman consistantly hits taps to the opposition.
How particular players can't play if they've set foot on a plane in the last 48 hours.

Reality should have hit home for Ross this week - you don't get paid 800k for nothing. After the geelong game he probably thought it was all Beer and Skittles. Tough luck Ross, your gonna havta earn that $$$.

The game plan, the players, the team, the coaching staff, the culture. Everything needs to change. Thats why your getting paid 800k.

The playing group have challenged him(Lyon) now.
I guess we'll see now if Ross is really worth the 800k per year.
I'm fully aware it will take Lyon a bit of time to see who is worth keeping and who is rubbish and which players are to be delisted this year.
