Had my computer stolen on the weekend.

My mate left it in his car on the back seat nice and visible at the Knights/Sth Melb game at Scumshine on the weekend.

So this thread is a bit of a double edged sword - have any of your mates ever performed such acts of irresponsibility before?

And whats TV like these days? ;)

PS Im not after sympathy, Im thinking of it as a lump payment/donation towards the smackies of Melbourne instead of just dishing out a bit of loose change at the train station whenever they ask for it the rest of my life..

Tell the cops

You state the obvious better than anyone else on Bigfooty.

But what you don't understand is, what are the cops going to do?
Go back into the past and look at who stole his computer and stop them?
I can't see them doing much, they will file a report saying a missing computer, and thats it.

Waste of time really.

Not really, if it's reported, and then sold to a pawn broker, he'll get it back.

That's what you think.

The police will ask for your phone number and address so that they can return the goods safely back to your place.

Hey whatever you do don't write the police off. they do a very good job looking after everyone.

Post of the year Suze. :)

Best of luck if it's a generic no-name brand PC custom built from components. Going to be a nightmare trying to identify a machine - and that's if it HASN'T been ripped apart into parts. Better chances if it's a laptop, AND you've taken note of all the serial numbers.

Never good to hear - your mate should be taken out and have things gently explained to him. the worst part is not the material loss, it's the address books, data, etc that's on the hard drives. hopefully you've been backing up.

which reminds me... :D

They have to get it back first.

Yup. Kind of a vital piece of the puzzle.

Oh, and Lockyer - Did you have backups of your important stuff?

My bag got stolen from St.Kilda beach a while back which had my wallet in it among other items.

2 of my cards turned up at Collingwood police station a week or so ago.

St.Kilda to Collingwood...wouldn't be a junkie would it?

Probably a Collingwood supporter used it to pay his membership. ;)

The police took all my info when my bike got stolen (not a cheap one at that) they just couldnt be stuffed looken round, ive had more then that stolen and never seen one item back, i dont blame them for not getting it back, its just nothing they can do really.

But that was pretty stupid leaving your computer wide open for people to see, did they brake into the car or did u leave that unlocked so they could come get it
