If we do what I know we can do, Dogs to hold a narrow lead all match and grind out a win. Those 2 weeks agaist Geelong and Swans were putrid!!!! Are we that bad? If these 22 aren't gonna be as hungry for the ball as ever before, then why are we bothering at all?

Try tell Picken, Ward, Cross, Boyd it's an innevitable loss. I have faith that these blokes can stick it up em. Hudson is vital in these conditions.

How does the wet form of Dawes, Leigh Brown, Donuts Davis, Nafan Brown, O'Brien, and Jolly stack up?

Named onballers of both teams:

Hudson Boyd Cross Ward
Jolly Swan Pendlefairy Thomas

I know who I'd want to go and get it in the wet.

I'd play Addison defensively on Harry 'love' O'Brien. He's tall and strong and plays with a hard defensive mindset. O'Brien showed recently he doesn't like it when he gets someone sent to him for a job.

We can absolutely match it with the Pies for hardness. I'd be a lot more concerned playing Saints and Geelong in this regard. Can we use it well enough to hurt them at the crucial stages of quarters? In wet footy momentum is everything. Time will tell and this will decide the match. Unfortuately Didak's very good at this!

From memory, last time we played them Boyd and Cross couldn't stop getting it and Pendlebury was best on ground. I don't think our two are gonna stop getting it no matter what. Is Pendlebury going to be best on again in the wet with Picken up his arse?

The Pies have very good players. So do we.

Bring it on

Everitt & Jones paid the price for playing poorly last week - very unfortunate since both were good in the win over Adelaide. Higgins & Wood definitely had to come back in, and probably Minson.

Apparently Johnson was close to playing last week - if so he should be fine to play this week. I'm not the only one feeling uneasy having him & Hahn in the same team. Here's hoping we pull it off!

Some observations:

With Moles omitted, the plan must be to move Gia into the midfield rotations.

Addison is another oddity, I can't see him playing down back. He must be slotted to pick-up a midfielder or play as a defensive forward as he has a few times this year and v Essendon last week. Possibly a forward tag on Shaw or O'brien.

Hahn, I believe will play down back. He has not played forward since coming back into the team. Without Morris Hahn becomes crucial. He will probably rotate thru Brown, and Dawes where he can probably match their strength and pace.

This leaves Wood to go to Davis and Harbrow to strengthen the midfield.

I think our best chance comes with the non selection of Presti. This leaves N Brown, Reid or Maxwell for Hall. If Hall is on, non of them can match him. Occasionally, throwing Lake up their could really unsettle the Pies defense.

5 out of 5, you score perfect marks.

Yes I think that post was very good. We also need to guard the interchange side of the ground as the Pies use it to spot up loose men coming off the bench. We can't allow them to create loose men like that.

It should be a very contested footy night, we need to make sure we tighten up on them, but there will be times to go for it Ballistic style, and if we get the balance right we'll be some show.

If it's piddling down, as expected, leg speed & footskills become a bit less important and strength & contested footy a bit more important.
Everitt doesn't seem like the sort who'd thrive in wet conditions.

He was poor in defence in the rain against Melbourne early in the season, but he played probably his best game of the year in rd 19 against Adelaide, a game played in driving rain for much of the 2nd half.

Griffen will play seems when Sam mentioned it on the footy show that he been training privately Barry's grin confirmed it.

Do not think Johno will play in comes Moles. I suspect if it is wet that Minson may be out for Hooper or Callan. It may pay off but I think this is a huge risk.

I do not like Addsion in the side he is hard at it but has zero skill. I suspect he may go to O'Brien as a defensive forward this can only possible work if it is wet.

Eade and the footy world know without Cooney and Morris we need all our planning to come off to combat there rebound footy. We cannot afford to lose the contested footy and we need to try to match there tackles.

The task is huge the prize for success is pure gold a prelim. with a weeks rest.

I guess the motto is no pain no gain. Go Dogs are you Bound for Glory?

Play johno one out at ff and push Barry up the ground. Thoughts?

Too slow, especially with a suspect achilles to push off with. Would be murdered.

We need him linking and spreading the defence.

Look just a word about those complaining about Johnson in and Jones out.

think of it as 350 games experience IN, 5 games of experience OUT.

Bound for glory reminds me of some very bad GF entertainment

Jones has a good a taste of senior action and is a very exciting prospect for the future but lets be honest, he's been easily beaten in every game he's played. Sure we let him off because his young and so we should but this is the finals and youth bias doesn't count for anything.

On the contrary - When Brad Johnson doesn't beat his opponent we are up in arms and calling for his immediate retirement.

Cognitive bias at it's best.

The only bias here is that one man is likely to run the whole match out, the other has a proven track record this year of playing lame and/or breaking down midway. Care to guess which one is which?

We cannot afford to carry injured players into a match like this, whatever the age or experience. Suggesting otherwise is lunacy, and will more than likely end in injuries, perhaps career ending. On the other hand, if Johno IS healthy, then he is still in our best 22 and must play.

How's my cognition looking, Butane?

Exactly right.

I don't think anyone is calling for Johno not to play based on the fact that he's no good. It's that he physically is no longer up to it. His time has come. He needs to pull the pin. We can't afford to risk having someone injured early in the piece. And as good as he may feel pre-game, it's been shown time and again that he can't run the game out. He simply should not play.

I assumed they were both fit.

It's obvious that you take players who can play the whole game out in to a match.

Can you imagine a kid the size of Jones trying to get a kick if the ground is a foot under water? Eekk, I cringe thinking about it. I'd still take him in over Johnson if Johnson couldn't run for 4 quarters though.

Everyone is thinking that Johnno isn't fit and it is a fair enough assumption. He has looked fit for 2 games this season.

Even if Johnson was fit I think the game has moved past him due to one his body and two his style of players.

The game requires forwards to apply pressure and tackle. This has always been Johnsons downfall and now with his body slowing he is a liability in the team.

Isn't it wierd that most supporters can see that the forward line is too slow and Johnson and Hahn are going to get shown up yet the coaching staff still have faith in them.

Does anyone else feel our club been such a close nit unit sometimes plays against us. Eg the club dont make the tough decisions required because they are too close to players.

This rain is a godsend.

Trying to be positive ( its 22 on 22 ) - i know we can win, and we are sadly short on numbers , but eade and the coaching staff's selections continue to amuse me, as they have done all year....

with this line up , we dont have an accountable, defensive, hard tackeling forward line !!!!! ( Wake up eade )

as a few other posters have said, i will also SPEW UP if the pies continually rebound off 1/2 back at will...

what we need is Hall and a few of our big boys to take out ( Legally ) a few pies players early and show some physical intimidation - i for one would love to see Hall lay a few bone crunching tackles ! ( at least this will provide some enjoyment for the game ! )

cheers
