I have had some time to calm down after The inconsistency in the umpiring was atrocious yesterday. There were easily 4 or 5 instances of frees that were very questionable. Jordan lewis clear duck gets given, Jeremy Howe clearly got caught high but for some reason wasnt given a free apparently for slipping the shoulders yet rioli selwood and the rest get them, sidebottom gets a free against for interference and the exact same thing in the goal square for Crocker and there is no free kick. There was a few more too i am a big collingwood supporter but just my views on yesterday.

There were many factors within our control that contributed to the loss.

No need / point blaming the umpires.
We don't have to blame the umps but we can sure point out their one sided 'inconsistency'.

Howe getting legged by Rioli that leads to a Breust goal...Rioli knocking the ball out in the tackle leading to holding the ball in the first Q, same thing happened a few times after and wasn't rewarded. Maynard holding the tackle too long and free given (was a free), same thing happened numerous times after and not awarded, including one where Cloke was dragged to the ground by two players whilst not in possession. A couple of questionable in the back free kicks during tackles that were paid against, yet weren't paid for. One particular where Treloar was driven into the ground (Q4 from memory), I think by Hodge. Now I didn't expect to win, so getting that close was great, but the game certainly was hard to watch with some glaring inconsistencies in the umpiring.

As horribly inconsistent as the umpiring was, even I can't bring myself to blame them for yesterday's loss.

I honestly blame the defence. Too loose and just gave away waaaaaay many shit goals. But? I will admit, Maynard was actually not terrible. Hopefully he keeps getting better.

We could of and should have win despite the umpiring but it was shocking yesterday. When the commentators and media on Twitter are talking about Hawks getting the rub of the green you know something is up.

I agree, Some disposal issues from guys like Williams, Brown among others hurt us yesterday. Umpires such but we win our fair share of decisions too. And we have to live with that and learn to win when the calls are going against that like we did in 2010.

On Maynard, he's been not terrible for the last month or two now, it's really positive the growth he's showing. Him and Ramsay who I'm still devastated for will be terrific medium rebound defenders in a year or two.

I'd like ot think that when we get our injuries sorted, Maynard will probably not squeeze in, but I wouldn't mind seeing him play as a defensive wingman?

It's almost as if you've never watched a Hawthorn game before.

You also forgot the deliberate out of bounds in the first minute of the game from a center bounce clearance.

People who are saying the umpires didn't affect the result are kidding themselves.

-Nonsense deliberate paid at the opening bounce
-Fitzpatrick paid holding the man after dropping it - direct goal
-Rioli knocks the ball out of Smith's hands - HTB and direct goal
-Hodge steps over his mark, no play on but gets 50 instead - direct goal
-Rioli trips Howe - play on and direct goal
-3 or 4 blatant missed HTBs in our forward 50
-Repeated instances of Hawthorn players diving and rewarded for in the back - none paid the other way
-Two rubbish high-tackle calls late in the last up our end when we had momentum
-Hodge sinking his knee into Treloar's head - play on
-Pendlebury blatantly held without it at the end of the second - play on
-Hartung runs 45m with one bounce - play on, direct goal
-Gibson puts the ball on the ground after being tackled in our F50, last quarter - play on
-If you want to be technical Fitzpatrick ran further than 15m for his last goal as well

It was just a joke. AFL got the finals they were after so it's all well and good.

I haven't enjoyed footy this year at all, umpiring has been so inconsistent. I seriously have no idea what incorrect disposal is anymore.
I won't be watching any of the finals, umpiring has left a sour taste and not particular interested unless WB somehow play off in the GF. (Family interest).

The umpires were flipping atrocious yesterday.... I turned it off at half time because I was so mad.
Crocker gets pinged for holding the ball when the ball gets knocked out of his hands by Rioli whereas Hawks player (one of their backs) just drops it after having it an eternity and it's play on.

Then there's the Howe head high.... There were way too many goals gifted to Hawthorn yesterday by terrible decisions/non-decisions for us not to make mention of it.

What!
Who replaces him?
He'd be one of my top 5 first picked players... Tough, rarely beaten in a 1 on 1 and that left boot is lethal!!

You have to be a bit cynical about these things.

How much more important was it for the AFL to have the marquee Geelong v Hawthorn match at the G, then any other combination?

I don't care what the AFL says, they (the organisation and the individuals who are paid bonuses) are significantly motivated by money. I'd say that a Hawthorn win was always going to be, as it was the best $ outcome. I just don't think the AFL thought that the umpires would have to work as hard as they did to ensure the result.

I made the comment yesterday that if Hawthorn make the Grand Final and it's umpired, they won't lose.... I stand by that statement.

Not inconsistent at all.
100% consistent in Hawthorn games. They get away with shit all the time.

Really impressed by how he's sorted out the defensive and contested side of his game this second half of the year. There was a stage there where we threw him to the wolves, he was a liability. Not really his fault, but he just couldn't compete. Now, he's starting to blossom into a tough as nails type with a real weapon of a left boot. If he can iron out the occasional brain fade (which, to his credit, he has been doing), he can be a really good player for us.

How good was his contested ground ball win in the last quarter? Beat three Hawks as they were breaking forward and swung momentum back our way.

Purely in defence, with no injuries, I Would have thought our starting 6 would be:

- Reid
- Brown/Keefe
- Howe
- Scharenberg
- Sinclair
- Ramsay

But as I said, as a wingman perhaps?

Purely in defence, with no injuries, I Would have thought our starting 6 would be:

- Reid (Agree)
- Brown/Keefe (Agree but hopefully Marsh replaces this position sooner rather than later)
- Howe (Been phenomenal down there but hoping he plays forward next year)
- Scharenberg (Based on what? If we're judging by what pick he was taken at, then fair enough)
- Sinclair (Maynard much better defender)
- Ramsay (Sample size is small and I do rate Ramma but I think i'd still prefer Maynard)

But as I said, as a wingman perhaps?

See above.
My back 6 (in a perfect World) would look like:

FB: Maynard Marsh Ramsey
HB: Sinclair Reid Scharenberg

Langdon is probably unlucky and i'm assuming Williams won't be there next year.
I know i'll probably be lambasted for having Marsh at FB.... Maybe so but I think he has the height and closing speed to beat the "Modern" KPF.

My favourite one was where Lewis bear hugged Treloar so that his teammate could go around him.

Not only that but I thought they made it that you couldn't block a player on the mark? Ever since Lumumba did it when he was still with us...? Guess not?

Yep... Noticed this.
I wonder what it's worth to the AFL for the Hawks to 4-peat?
