sigh

Couldn't spot a thread for this already.

The club posted the following on February 17:
  • Liam Jones (hamstring) - 8-10 weeks
  • Adam Treloar (calf) - 8-10 weeks
  • Jason Johannisen (hamstring) - 8-12 weeks
  • Cody Weightman (knee) - 3 months
I guess we can now add Bont (calf) - 6 weeks, Ugle-Hagan (personal reasons) - TBA, with Richards, Dale, Scott, Coffield potentially questionable.

Also West has a injury cloud over him as well.

Less vital I suppose but Jacques also injured to some extent, although no info on it as far as I can tell

At least a fair few will be back around Gather Round ... possibly Bont, Treloar and Jones...

Shit 4 weeks before then
The issue is we're copping an injury per week at the minute so whilst we might get some back, there's every chance we'll be another few down by then. Hopefully not!

So we are starting the season without

The Bont B& F 24
ADZ. 2nd
Jones. 4th
Richards. 5th ?
Weightman. In our best 10
JUH. In our best 10
Plus Dale, English and Astro all have had interrupted pre seasons.

Has there ever been a team this effected by injury ever before the start season. I know the bombers because the drug saga were but that was not injury related.

I think we go into the North game as outsiders unfortunately. Serious questions have to be asked about Chris Bell and his team.

In the mix

It has been a brutal pre-season on the injury front at the kennel, but the Western Bulldogs are hoping to regain Dale, Richards and Westfor the round one clash against North Melbourne. All three will need to prove their fitness next week. Treloar has made strong progress recently and is pushing to be available earlier than first planned. Bontempelli won't be available until after Gather Round in a massive blow for the club. - Josh Gabelich

If we take that list at face value and there are no further setbacks, we should have all bar JJ (who is fringe anyway) and Cody available by R5 or so.

Just got to beat 2 of Norf, Blues and Pies in the first 3 rounds and our position is good.

That doesn't count a couple of things. One is the possibility of more soft tissue injuries across the group as there’s clearly a widespread loading issue.

The other is that all of these players will be significantly underdone and take a number of weeks to gather match fitness.

We’ll likely be feeling the full effects of this injury block for the first couple of months into the season at minimum.

If all our tests are fit and ready for round 1 i'll feel a lot better as with our current outs we really need all three of Ed, Bailey Dale and West playing. Fingers crossed the club is being truthful about them just being minor tightness etc as reported.

Treloar back by Rd 2-3 would be just what we need. Makes that midfield look strong again with Ed & Libba. He’s the ultimate professional as well so I reckon he’ll be back to form quickly.

I feel like the Treloar estimate was always conservative.

He’s clearly had a major history of calf issues so it seems like a usual 3-4 weeker that they decided to extend to allow him to get a greater level of conditioning into order to try and last the full season without breaking down.

Accordingly to Treloar he is no longer injured, just needs to complete a training block to be picked for selection.
L. Jizz is tracking earlier than current dates.
Bont, according to a WOOF track watcher who spoke with him directly, reckons he'll be back by the Carlton game.

These first 4 games are going to be absolutely crucial. If we can sneak in a couple of wins and head into gather round 2-2, then we’ll really set ourselves up for the season.

We play 3 potential finalists in that stretch so we just need to tread water whilst we gain some possible inclusions and they get match fitness. We could have all of Treloar, Bont, Jones & JUH back in the side by that point.

Herald Sun reporting this morning that Bont won’t be back til Gather round at the earliest.
He doesn’t believe that his return can be sped. Just got to get it right for his return.

A raft of regular Bulldogs are a chance to feature in Saturday night’s Round 1 clash with North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.

Ed Richards, Bailey Dale and Rhylee West will need to get through main training on Thursday before putting their hand up to be selected.
selected.

The trio have been in main training for over a week, having missed the clash against Hawthorn in Tasmania a fortnight ago.

Laith Vandermeer is also expected to be available for selection after recovering from concussion in that fixture, while skipper Marcus Bontempelli remains several weeks away as he recovers from a calf setback sustained in the same practice match.

“Although Marcus had low level acute symptoms at the time, both scans and clinical findings after the game confirmed a complex calf injury that involve parts of the calf that are prone to having recurrent issues,” Head of Sports Medicine Chris Bell said.

“It’s because of this that we need to be very calculated with his conservative management plan, but he has been progressing well since his injury.

“He has started his rehab and is back on the track, so we will update his return-to-play plan over the coming weeks but can expect to see him back in the next 5-6 weeks.”
Defensive duo Liam Jones and Jason Johannisen are tracking well following their respective hamstring injuries.

“Both Liam and JJ have continued to progress well following their high-grade hamstring injuries,” Bell said.

“They are completing a significant amount of running reconditioning and are both progressing towards higher speed running across the next two weeks.

“We will then consolidate a block of unrestricted football training, with the current expectation that they return to availability in the next 4-6 weeks.”

Adam Treloar is also closing in on a return to play.

“Adam had multiple minor niggles across the December and January period that led to him missing a big portion of his pre-season training. We are conscious to make sure that we facilitate a base of training that allows Adam to consistently perform,” Bell said.

“He has started to build a nice base of consistent training and will continue to execute a pre-season football conditioning model across the next 3-4 weeks.”
