I'm actually not too sure about that with the player fitness levels. Buckley had the squad training very hard early on and players were saying it was more than they had done in any preseason previously. Collingwood then slowed down the training loads over the last few weeks and have spaced out NAB Cup games, but the fitness is already there and built up in most players. It's the lack of match fitness that is a concern with some players.I know it sounds frustrating guys,we do have a few niggles and players are no where near peak fitness.
I know that Hawthorn will throw everything at us in round 1 especially after we exited them from last year's prelim, they will be super keen to beat us,and they may.
They are ahead of us at this stage of the year,as far as conditioning and ftness is concerned.Just gotta hope that we don't get any sertious injurires out of that game, its gonna be a rough and tough encounter.
The collingwoood hierarchy want us to get to full fitness second half of the year, this is where Buttifant has to work his magic so we a primed close to finals.the start of the year doesn't matter too much, although we must stay in touch with top 4 ,and not drop too many games.
At the half way mark if we are say 8-0 wins say 3-4 losses we can go hjard second half of the year, and run ourselves into peak fitness closer to end of yaer, ready to rip the finals apart.
Senior player management and a few who need to step up,will see us through ,i hope.
On track for what? Obviously not a rd 1 start, so for when are they on track to play? Also, I never realised we had so many players injured till I saw the list today.
Missing in action
In positive news for Magpie fans, Chris Tarrant (foot), Alan Didak (adductor), Ben Johnson (hamstring), Nathan Brown (knee), Dayne Beams (shin) and Cameron Wood (shoulder) are all expected to be available for selection in round one. All six will sit out this week’s match giving several youngsters another opportunity to impress.

Good news I guess? But how underdone will they be?
I think we need to accept a Round 1 loss to the Hawks, which will be FAR from the end of the world, and will simply put more focus on them, and less off us.
Could be a good thing in the long run.

According to The Age Wellingham, Wood and Tarrant are playing in the VFL game with Didak and Johnson redy for round 1 but probably with the VFL. Beams and Brown definitely not playing in round 1.

I thought I made that clear when I said that Bucks was pessimistic about their chances of playing round 1.
To reiterate they are both on track to return around the time that it was projected they would, when Buckley commented on there injuries earlier this pre-season.
That is awesome news especially regarding taz who is crucial for round 1. Living in Sydney it is hard to get many updates. Thank god for the Internet. Would be great to have taz, wellers and wood good for the hawks.
Fwiw I reckon we r still a massive chance against hawks and even more confident if taz plays.
have heard that didak and Tarrant will be struggling to be fit for round 1.
Even if Tarrant plays reserves, 6 day turnaround brfore round 1 means,he will still miss.Maxwell is racing aginst time to get fit.
Nathan Brown,is still a few weeks away.
So quite possible we will be missing,Tarrant,Brown,Didak,Johnson,Maxwell,Beams,Wood.
Which means newbies in Elliot,Yagmoor,Keefe,Paine will get a run.
I doubt whether Keefe can handle buddy,so round 1 Hawks by 20 points ,
outside Tarrant or maybe Reid i doubt someone like Keefe can stop Buddy.
Keefe is about as likely to line up on Buddy as Travis Cloke is.

LOL too many folk thinking we still have the young inexperienced side of 2007-09 at present. this side is so much more mature & talented than back then - we are the challenged, not the challenger.
going in as confident as we can be.
No backing down from me, I still think we'll win, or as I've said, if we do happen to lose, it won't be by the 20-40 point predictions I've seen, it will be by a very small margin.
Take Tarrant out (still a chance to play), and we are only really missing Johnson and Didak from the prelim side last year (Beams played, but was almost useless with injuries). I don't count Davis or Brown, as both gave us very little on the night, in fact Leon almost cost us the game in that 3rd quarter on Puopolo.
So if either, or both of them come up, even if Taz doesn't play, we are still a massive chance.
Let's see the Hawks beat our forward press with their predictable short kicking game, it hasn't worked in the past against us, so why would it work now?
Keep the faith.![]()
