Basically we got Loats for Clarke
Pick 20 for Street
Trade pick 20 for Haynes and pick 42

Also those bastards at Hawthorn screwed us out of Rawlings at the last minute when it looked like we'd pulled of a trade week miracle.

In: Loats (Haw), Haynes (WCE), pick 42 (WCE)

Out: Street (WB), Clarke (Carl), pick 20 (received via. 3way trade)

Of what we've got, we've done alright.

But the bloody Dogs and Hawks...

I've gotta say, I'm really pleased with this result. I think we definitely got the better of the Eagles in the Haynes trade, and we sucked the Bulldogs into trading pick #20 for Street, allowing us to keep a 2nd round draft pick. Now all we need to do is convince Nathan Ablett to come and play with his older brother, or perhaps that has already been decided. ;)

Scousey I agree today's small trades look OK on paper. However in a couple of days time when we all look back on this week events I think we will all be fairly disappointed. I mean we failed to deliver on nearly all of our promises. Anyway this is a topic for next week. Right now I'm just gonna enjoy the fact we weren't on the recieving end of some poor trades.

My feelings on this week?

Impartial - I'm not really depressed, nor impressed with our wheelin' and dealing.

Admittedly, I don't really know much about Loats, and I thought the Haynes trade was unneccessary, taking into consideration our abundance of moderate, second-tier forwards, but it certainly wasn't by any stretch of the imagination deplorable trading.

Clarke and Street were hardly a vital part of our team structure, and in fact as we all know, Clarke was more so a liabilty on the field with his talented disposal.

Street showed signs of improving; (After what seems an eternity, 5 years exactly) however with the Bulldogs vastly over rating his ability, and offering us a second-round pick, he was always going to leave us.

Both, i think i can fairly say, were duds and are better off at their respectful clubs.

The worry is - Clarke for Loats - will Loats do anything for us? I mean, theoretically speaking, Clarke did absolutely nothing besides turn the ball over, so even if he (Loats) were to do nothing, it wouldn't necessarily be a loss (or a win, depending on how you look at the situation)

Then there's always the other side of the spectrum, he could turn into a dominate KPP, which i somehow seriously doubt, but it's worth dreaming about the chance that the Ablett tale will unfold once again (Miss you Gazza) ;)

Like I said previously, the Haynes trade is somewhat bewildering. I mean, given our abundance of middle-tier forwards, there isn't really a need for him, and surely he will only prolong the forward-line problems, as the likes of McCarthy, Gardiner and Playfair will be stripped of valuable development time on the ground.

Now I think about it, though... Our forward line will probably consist of Haynes and Kingsley in the pockets, McCarthy in the goal square, roaming around the 20 - 25 metre mark and Playfair at CHF (interchanging with Mooney) and Ablett/Chappy at their feet on the flanks.

That's really all I have to say for now.

All the talk on this board and others is about the dogs and hawks screwing everybody over Essendon is just as bad. Jacobs for pick 6 and Alvey , come on , that makes them just as guilty as the other 2

Croad for pick #11

Definite winner, too.

That's karma for you, do us over and then get done over themselves. A lot of not very happy hawkers out there.

Essendon too can't be too happy either, any trade period where you pick up J.Murphy is a bad trade period.

I can't believe Essendon would want a hack like Murphy in their team, especially after just retiring Alessio!

What happened with Ray Hall? Is he another who refused to come down the highway (add Guerra as well), and if that's the case what hope do we have of attracting a half-decent footballer? I think Geelong has a case to receive some sort of assistance with relocating players, like the small bounty handed over to Brisbane and Sydney.

I'd be happy with a priority zone selection.

Good compromise - I guess it's pie in the sky to think we would ever get a special allowance in the salary cap.

apparently he wants to go to Sydney, it was nothing to do with Geelong, other than the fact we are not in Sydney. He'll get picked up by Sydney for sure in the preseason.
