Lara was inconsistent at times, particularly towards the end, but the brutality he could unleash against quality bowlers makes him the best bat I have seen. Not many players can completely dominate Warne and McGrath.

im always wary of any analytical article that spends more time explaining the parameters used to get the results rather than talking about the results themselves.
However I will gladly take any set of metrics that sees Brian Charles as the de facto number 1 (which is really what it is give that Bradman is essentially an untouched divinity)

With Gavaskar, the fact that he was not included in Wisden's team of the century as the the opener to Jack Hobbs was criminal
