Interesting stats

Stats aren’t for everyone, but I love ‘em. I get weekly emails from a website that deals in footy statistics – www.prowess.com.au .

The good thing about it is that they record stats in a whole range of interesting categories. Some examples below.

Geelong has 5 players in the top 25 for goal-assists – G Ablett (24 assists), Riccardi (24), Playfair (20), S Johnson (19), Kelly (19). Quite amazing that Riccardi is such a heavy contributor given his limited game time, Playfair is far more important in this regard than I would have thought (this one’s for you Jack!) and Steve Johnson shows his importance making it in after playing only 11 matches.

There is a category called “goal setter” which is when a player initiates a chain of unbroken possessions that ultimately results in a goal. Milburn (32) is second in the league to Judd (36).

There is a category called “goal involvements” which is when a player has directly contributed to a goal through a ruck-tap, knock on or tackle. Steven King is 7th in the league with 17 (admittedly, 30 behind Dean Cox on 47 who leads the category).

I don't really want to start this again, but your problem was that he "didn't provide a contest". The stats show that clearly he does and in fact he does more than that - he gets the pill and uses it to his teams advantage.

Did you know that jimmy Bartel leads the league for uncontested ball spills and hard ball knock on's in the defensive try line?

Whilst they may be interesting and in no way am i having a go at you catempire but there are only a few stats that i care about.

Overall score - Must be higher than opposition; and

Nathan Ablett Goals - He excites the hell out of me..

Anyway, i am in Sydney starting to get really excited about tonights game. Gotta love having a sibling living in Sydney!!!!
