I can't be stuffed re writing this, so I decided to cut and paste from my website.

"Despite last Friday nights appalling performance and subsequent loss the Dons still managed to seal the minor premiership. They finished on top of the ladder ahead of the Brisbane bears by percentage. Since 1999 they have sat atop of the ladder comfortably. In 1999, they finished one games clear ahead of the Kangaroos and after their sensational 2000 season, they finished five games clear of carlton. Considering the injuries and the fact that the other teams in the competition are stronger, Essendon have done well to earn their third successive minor premiership. No Essendon team has ever achieved this before. In 1923 - 1924 as well as 1984 - 1985 the Dons managed to finish on top of the ladder in successive years, both times earning them a premiership. So to dominate the home and away season for three years in a row is a new record for the Essendon team. 1999 was a great home and away season, but things didn't go as planned during the finals, the 2000 season and finals campaign fell into place very well, earning the team a flag. Hopefully, the 2001 season will also be capped off with another flag. The Dons finals campaign starts this Friday night against Richmond at the MCG 7:45 PM."

Wel, you know how I feel about the minor premiership.

I think it is the biggest achievement in football.

When I say "achievement", I mean in terms of difficulty rather than hype.

Obviously, we'd all rather win the Grand Final "on the day", because the glory of winning it is unsurpassed. However, the actual achievement of being the best for 6 months and finishing on top is HARDER to achieve than being the best for 4 weeks in September.

I don't think that can be logically argued against.

For Essendon to have finished above every other team in the competition, for three consecutive years is unbelievable. It means we have been consistently able to win football matches again...and again.... and again... over a 6 month period for three years in a row. Whilst the Adelaide Crows won the match that everyone wants to win in 1997-98, they found it significantly easier to do that than to finish on top. In fact, they were not capable of being the best for 6 months, They were only capable of being the best for four weeks.

We'd all rather win the GF obviously, but I am just saying that the "achivement" of finishing top is the hardest thing to do in footy. Let's hope we can keep it up from year to year.

Maybe we can match the Demons who achieved the feat six years in a row (1955-56-57-58-59-60). It still angers me that the feat of finishing on top isn't recognised.

P.S. We are now even with both Carlton and Collingwood on 17 minor premierships.

I think we get some sort of McLelland (spelling) trophy or shiny dinner plate as a reward. Woo Hoo.

They recognise the "minor premiership" more in Rugby League. I saw Parramatta presented with a trophy after their final H&A game. Then they done a lap of honour with it.
