Nice late goal thanks to their movie star goal keeper though.
The difference is purely the skills. They're bombing goals from long range that don't even look like missing while our guys miss, then when going for the mark the Aussie boys mid read it every single time.

Watched it on foxtel it started at 8pm an finished just after 9:30pm geez its good to see delayed sport with out all the ads an rubbish between quarters.

Skills were always their strength. Ours was strength, and that's been completely taken out of the game. The Irish were actually harder, tougher and stronger in the contests. We must have had twice as many missed tackles as they did. ****ing ridiculous.
But you field a bunch of crabs, you have to expect them to play like it. You put that team in the AFL and they'd get creamed by everyone. The good players in the AFL were good players in International rules - Vince, Kelly, Milne to a lesser extent. The shit players in AFL were, funnily enough, shit in this game as well. Wood, Grigg, Shiels, Monfries, Robinson. All complete spuds.
A bit of biffo started to brew....Gees the Irish boys are definetly physically stronger this year.

Commentators said that Travis Cloke was shocked and disappointed that he didn't get asked to play. He would of been perfect. This Aussie team is slow and weak.

Shocking result and yet again proof they have to go back to a best of 3 series, what reason do people have to buy a ticket to the qld game now? Congrats to the irish, f@@@ing embarressed the aussies all over the field, better kicking, running, tackling... thank god the fight didn't break out or we'd have probably lost that as well.

It is a shit game anyway, thats why I have stopped watching it. Used to back when it started up originally, but now I've come to recognise how crap it is. I hope the drop the series really and give these guys some more time off.

Great result for the sport really. Teaches the AFL a bit of humility. If they want to bring in a bunch of spuds then let them be thrashed like it.
If the AFL were to feild their strongest team however it would be the same in reverse.
A compromise in the middle has to be met. Some crabs to fill the team out, sure. But then you have to have some quality in their as well. Obviously it has to be limited as you don't want to force them.
Maybe make it so that every AFL player has to put their hands up to play IR at least once in their careers. Obviously if you aren't good enough then fine, no dramas, but if your an AA and you haven't yet put your hand up, then you can be drafted in a way. Do it once and your forever off the book (unless you feel like you want o go again)

Everytime ive watched these games we havent won because of skill an speed.
We won because we were,bigger,fitter,stronger an put out talented footballers.
We will never be able to match the skill an speed of them as they train for a non physical fast paced game an with that ball.
Absolute embarrassment.
I used to watch because i liked seeing all our talented footballers adapting to the new game an representing Australia in their sport the closest way possible.
Now i see a bunch of avg players picked just coz of speed.
If they want this game to die they are going the right way about it.
Its almost as bad as state of origin became because alot of good players wouldnt take part, only difference is i hear the good players wanted to play this but werent selected.

I had no idea this was even on until I saw this thread. Hopefully we don't have any players involved/injured in this joke of a concept. It was an OK idea for a few years, but now it has lost all relevance to Australia.

my main issue with the game last night was that some very average footballers now have the honour of representing the country.
King, Grigg, Nicoski, & a few others are guys that would not get a game at some AFL clubs.

Dont know how true this is, the aussie team was shocking but some of it is also more Irish getting experience in the afl system and they're a lot closer to professional now in training, fitness etc than they were in the 80s. I suppose afl players are too but the gaps closer imo.
I enjoy it for what it is, there's no real relevance to afl but it's a bit of fun in a seperate competition. when it works there's still an entertaining game and players taking pride playing for their country.
Definitely agree that a result like last night should embarrass the aussies into picking a better team and like I said before it has to be a best of 3, even if the 3rd is only played when needed.
I was at one in Ireland when we drew the second game after the siren, we thought we had lost the game but won the series which was just a bizarre feeling.

It's a joke that these spuds get any recognition from a representative point of view. In fact it's a disgrace that they get to wear an Australian jumper.
Tell me another sport in the world, where players arer paid up to a million bucks per year, that turn out for something similar.

There were blokes in the Australian team last night that I'd barely even heard of. At least put up a half decent team otherwise they might as well not even bother with it.
We often played a very similar game in phys Ed at high school but with only the soccer goals and it was surprisingly fun to play. Agree that watching this IR is pretty crap though.

You don't reckon if we plonked Sandilands in the forward line, to tap in goals over the keeper, Cox in the middle to mark all the scraps, frankin running round causing havoc, ablett being the elusive midfielder that we wouldnt carve them up?
They wouldn't have anyone tall enough to match Sandilands at any stage of the game. He wouldn't even have to mark it as he could just almost dunk the ball for a 6 pointer.
