I never go into them, sometimes when I am really bored, I find a stupid one and flood it.

I know you all are going to leap all over me and Jen (figuratively speaking, of course), but if it wasn't for a chat room that no longer exists, she and I would never have met.

It's not all bad news, folks-- and in fact, there are some stories that wind up in the "happily ever after" file. Jennifer and I are living proof of that. :)

Cheers,
William

There may be some, I never have, but at least if you get plastered while posting in one you don't have to worry about drink driving home.

I do use MSN chat, but the room I go to is just for chat, we're all friends but there isn't much else to it. Maybe 30 of us, and we have some great times and meet up and stuff. :)

I knew my now wife via a chatroom, but it was only when she came over backpacking and ended up at a mate's party, that we actually met ... relationship came about a month later. Whether that counts as a net relationship, I suppose I doubt, but hey!

The chatroom (CityDownUnder on Talkcity) was VERY different to your average child rooms. Its the only one I have ever seen which operates with any sense of maturity. I have seen so many rooms full of 100 people, about TWO of them actually talking out loud, about 6 of them just repeating a "pvte msg me if you are also too young to do this at a pub", and the rest seemingly doing absolutely nothing.

CDU had about 90 to 95% main room active and continued participation rate with populations up to about 50 (I think there was a 50 limit). Moderation was used to guide, and to immediately kick/ban on ANY bad language. People interested only private convos were usually hounded out. How else can I say it, it was simply an older crowd.

Me and my missus have been married 2 years and a bit. A bloke from Frankston married a bird from Sydney and had a tyke. A yank married a bloke from Geelong and had a tyke. Another bloke from Melbourne hooked up with another bloke from Sydney. Another yank bird married a kiwi bloke and they now have a kid. Oh, and there was a third melb bloke/syd girl match. All of these are to our knowledge still happy couples.

We also had a few parties, one of which was held in Sydney and attended by Aussies from all over, a couple of kiwis, a couple of yanks, and even some bloke from Belgium or Holland (can't remember where from exactly). These parties were referred to once as 'bonkfests'. I didn't go to the one with the foreigners, but I went to the one before it, and bonkfest wasn't far off, as there was a lot of matching up for the evening which went to different stages depending on the couple.

So yes, I visited a chatroom, yes I entertained a relationship, but the nature of the chatroom was so different from the common type that it hardly counts as an answer. It was a respectful, mature environment, and NOTHING like the kiddy ones like Melbourne on #Dalnet and so on.
