Ok, we are currently on a bigpond wireless plan something like 12Gb a month for $59.95. The contract has expired so I was wondering if we already have a wireless router, can we sign up to one of these internode ADSL2+ plans which have way more data allowance for the same price, but still connect to the network via wireless or will we need to use ethernet cords?

no, you won't have to use ethernet cables.

the only thing that changes is the internet connection. you probably have a adsl router (modem) and wireless router all in the one box. all you have to change is the internet bit, everything else stays the same.

If you have a D-Link it's the WAN (wide area network) tab.

thanks for this thread, i just changed to the EASY plan. 50Gb up and down for 59.95 is enough 4 me.

Any know why my internet is sooo slow? Checked my router. Check the modem. It's only the 17th surely I haven't downloaded to much pRon already?

And I'm sick of unplugging my modem and restarting the router; I have to set it all up again.

We got telstra 200 gig @ 59

iiNet has just launched a new set of plans and prices... crazy stuff.

200GB (100+100) is now only $49.95
400GB (200+200) is now only $69.95
1TB (500+500) is now only $99.95

1TB? How the hell do you download that much in a month?

EDIT: Looks like these plans include both upload and download in the quota, so its not nearly as big as you might think.

Why don't they just make it unlimited instead of 1TB...

For memory TPG has unlimited for $60-70.

Pretty sure TPG throttles torrent traffic, which would the only reason I could think why anyone would want an unlimited plan.

If you're not one of the tight asses that use torrents and therefore have no reason to upload any decent amounts of data then it is.

How the hell would you get anywhere near that amount unless you did use torrents? Surely not through pron... your wang would fall off about halfway through the first month.

I upgraded my iiNet plan, purely because I could at no extra cost, still don't know how I'm going to get anywhere near the quota though (200+200). Light pron surfer, light to medium torrents user, internet surfing uses up bugger all... what else is there?

I feel like a fat kid who just cannot leave any food on his plate at dinner time... and the ****ing portion size just doubled!

pretty sure it's ok to ask this in here since it's an internet plan question so does anybody know if there is any significant speed differences between telstras regular and business adsl2+ plans?
anybody know the real difference?
would the business actually be faster at all?

i heard that in the business plans you're not really fighting anybody for line speed so it will be the best option for those with no access to cable.
i'm not good with these things so have no idea if i'm being fed garbage or not.
btw i'm 4km from the exchange so i know that no matter what i won't be getting close to the listed speeds on their site.

i'm currently with internode naked adsl2+ and it's the most inconsistent garbage i've ever used.....1.5mb one minute, .5 the next etc...
so no matter what, changing to telstra business or standard adsl2+ will be cheaper and have significant usage increase since it will be bundled.

i'm just curious on what the difference is.

if you are with Telstra business do you still get a fixed IP?

also telstra business plans charge like wounded buffalo.

also if you change to Telstra, the only thing that might change is your billing. it is possible that Telstra and internode are on the same DSLAM.

the business might be faster if they have dedicated business DSLAMs in your location, apart from that

but you are 4km from the exchange. ADSL speeds are very dependant on the distance from the exchange. in ADSL terms you are quite a way from the exchange and you are probably getting a lot of noise on the line. Telstra may be no better no matter what plan you sign up for.

i'm not certain about fixed ip...i really know very little of the technical side of things.

the telstra business will be bundled with everything we already have at home so the price will be cheaper than what we are already paying along with significantly increased usage.
also the billpayers (not myself) would prefer that the internet was with telstra regardless.

from what the extremely helpful man from telstra told me there is a dedicated business something (must be what you said) hence why he suggested it was the best option for me for increased speed.

the 4km from exchange is a bitch and i know i'll still be getting pretty shitty speeds still but anything would be an increase from the garbage i'm currently on.

thanks for your help :thumbsu:
