The last time topic on this was done in 2001. Damn.

Just want to know your opinions on interracial dating. Have you dating interracially? How was your experience? Has anyone in your family done it? And what do you think Australia’s view on it?

My current girlfriend is Asian. I personally have never had a problem with it and her parents are quite accepting.

I'm perfectly fine with it, however it can be an obstacle for other cultures. I'm a caucasian Aussie Male, married to a Persian woman with Iranian parents. It has never been a problem for her parents, however she has relatives who were very opposed to the marriage.

My best mate is married to a chinese bird. No issues at all.
I've actually noticed that there are a lot more asian-caucasian relationships these days than there were in the past. It's good to see that cultures are more accepting of their children's preferences.

Back in my late teens, early 20's, I used to go out of my way to pull Greek and Italian chicks.
The Italians I found just went off in the cot and the Greeks, well, they used to love a particular type of sechs.
Never dated an Asian but I have a few mates that have yellow fever and find it difficult to go for anything else.

Go for it mate. Your life and the decision is ultimately yours. Hate to say it but some people are not as enlightened and modern as they think they are so you may get a comment or two. Others might surprise you, your life thou.

Oldest sister is married to a south african(black) had no issues with it, though he cops some weird looks when his walking with their son who is rather pale but seems to be getting darker every time I see him. Although not blood related she is basically my aunty she married a Jamaican fellow and had two kids, haven't seen them for two years as they live up in NSW but no issues there either, probably the funniest people I've ever met. Believe my Aunty copped a bit when they were growing up as you can imagine with a pale white woman raising two jamaican kids.

Wouldn't really be a problem for me. If I find them attractive, I couldn't care less what culture they are. In saying that, there are a couple of nationalities I don't seem to be attracted to at all. Parents (especially mum) I know wouldn't GAF if they were black white or purple

Interesting topic.

How many 'races' are there in Australia anyway? An 'Asian' girl is a pretty broad descriptor.

Different people are attracted to different qualities (physical and otherwise) and different qualities tend to be more or less prevalent in certain 'races'. If someone says 'I like Asian girls' the image that pops into my head is a small, lightly-framed, submissive SE Asian girl. If someone says 'I like Danish girls' I immediately think tall, tanned blonde. Etc.

IMO certain mixed-race couples just seem suss, but it's just ladder theory really. Whenever you see a couple that are a few levels apart you (I) immediately wonder what other factors are in play.

My brother's first wife was an Asian bird fifteen years younger than him and her parents hated him, but that probably had more to do with him being dissolute human being than race. Eighteen months later, divorce, to be fair she was also bonkers and would shag absolutely anything.

Sums me up. Like a mix, but don't go chasing the A variety that often.

Just a personal preference. My culture is too important to me to complicate it with someone else's.

Yeah I respect how important your culture is to you but imagine if I as a white, anglosaxon, Catholic male only chose females of that persuasion. I'd probably be called racist and maybe a bigot. So I guess the cap fits you pal.

I'd never call someone a racist based on their dating preferences, and anyone that would is embarassingly stupid.

We don't just call it dating?

Wife is Carlton supporter. I'm OK with it.

My ex was Asian (half Chinese, half Japanese) and we had an awesome relationship for six of the seven years. His family were very accepting of me and mine of him. Never had any issues at all because of our respective heritages (I am half Aussie, half Croatian.)

My first BF was black and came out here when he was 8 with his family from Sth. Africa. We were together for two years and again there were never any issues with family or friends due to his race.

Come to think of it, I have never dated a caucasian (white) dude.

This is a good point. People often seem to forget that India is a part of Asia! But if I say "oh I saw this Asian girl the other night" they're likely going to think of someone Chinese or Japanese rather than Indian

It's a cultural thing. We neighbour SE Asia so that's what our idea of Asian is.

Say 'Asian' in England and chances are someone will assume that you're talking about a person from the sub-continent as they have colonial links with India and a large Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi population.

It's also a good catch-all for whiteys who can't distinguish between different Asians. Describe a Chinese or Japanese or Korean girl as Asian and you're correct. Walk up to one and say 'konichiwa!' and there's a 2 in 3 chance they'll look at you like you're a dickhead.:)
