Forget Warne, Hogg, Hauritz, White, McGill...

Australia's latest "find" of spin bowling was discovered today when Beau Casson in his 2nd game for WA took 6/64 off 29.4 overs (Economy Rate: 2.16)!

Casson appeared in the WA 2nd XI vs England with Luke Ronchi and was very impressive. With Hogg being called up for National Duties, Casson has been given the chance to play and seems to be doing very well.

At stumps on Day 1, South Australia are all out for 226. Unfortunately Paul 'Blocker' Wilson didn't take a wicket against his old side.

In other games:

New South Whales 141 vs Victoria 3/110
Bollinger 3/34

Queensland 4/249 vs Tasmania
Love 127*

Good to see the young fella had a day out. He was I think he was in the U/19 team with White and Marsh etc, but I could be wrong.

Left arm chinaman bowler?? could be very interesting to see how he goes.

SHannon Tubb is another one of the same breed and he is reportedly to be very talented although ive never seen him so can't comment first hand.

the two may have some interesting battles for test selections in the years to come.

and why people still keep trotting out michael clarke's name is beyond me. surely love is miles ahead.

Love is miles ahead of Clarke - he is number 1 contendor for a middle order spot. i can just about give you a garuantee on that, and i think most people would say that he is the next in line.

Look at his scores the last few seasons:

2001/02 - Leading Runscorer. 1108 at 65.17.
2000/01 - 7th Runscorer. 834 at 75.81. 2nd highest average of anyone above 400 runs behind Ponting (484 at 161.33)
1999/00 - 10th Runscorere. 654 at 50.30. Most Catches - 17.

This year he hasn't done as well in the SS but that 127* has boosted his season, and he also has two 200+ scores against the poms (but is that really saying much ;))

perhaps i havent been following it as closely as you, but i have heard many a channel 9 commentator and many more saying that clarke is next in line, or should be next in line, especially as far as the test team is concerned and even the world cup.

being from sydney hourn you have to admit clarke is all the talk at the moment in regards to being a future test captain. i just struggle to see love mentioned in the papers.

people talk of NSW bias, and i tend to think it doesn't really exist, but i have to say the whole michael clarke affair threatens to put a dampner on my arguments.

yea the papers down here are all talk but i'm almost certain in the minds of the selectors that Love (as far as the test form of the game is concerned) is a fair way infront of Clarke.

In the short form though i think it is between Clarke and Maher for a reserve batting spot in the squad. They may end up picking both.

I read an article in the paper about him a few months ago. A great read.

He's an exciting player and I hope he takes his cricket further.

I'd love to see Michael Hussey go, but he has let himself down in the last 6 months or so. He was playing than Bevan type role in the middle order for WA and doing a sensational job, but he seems to have just lost it for the minute.

Anyway, back to the point, Casson looks a very likely talent to take over from Warney when he retires - he spins the ball a long way (the other way) and is very good with the bat. It'd be nice to see a West Aussie spinner in the team!!

Hmm..must say I don't really rate him, but playing juniors against him he got prob 90% of his wickets off long-hops and full-tosses (caught at boundary).

Took 8 wickets in a NTCA final, and 6 were caught at mid-wicket to mid-on boundary.

But his batting and fielding has improved dramatically, and presuming his control (always gave the ball a real rip) has improved he's a decent 'enough' bowler.
