Who did you play your junior football with?
I started with Mount Waverley before moving and playing with the Vermont Football Club and the last two seasons I played with the Eastern Ranges in the Under 18’s TAC Cup competition.
What was the experience like of playing the National Under 18’s Championships?
I played as a ‘bottom age’ player which is an Under 17’s player in the 2003 Championships for Victoria Metro. I was probably the youngest in the team that year and it was great experience. It was very professional and a great learning experience for me. Last year I didn’t play much because I was injured.
Who was your childhood hero?
I like the way Michael Voss plays and I certainly look up to players like ‘Roo’ and ‘Macca’
When were you first contacted by the club, who contacted you, and what was said?
As I did not attend the draft camp, I spoke to James Fantasia about 3 weeks before the draft. He basically told me that I was a chance of being drafted, but to be honest I wasn’t holding my breath.
What where your first reactions when you found out you had been drafted?
Naturally I was over the moon. As the draft was progressing and I hadn’t been selected I though that it may not happen, but I was ecstatic when I heard my name. It was a great relief.
What has been the best part of pre-season training so far?
I would say it is learning how to get yourself really fit. I haven’t been on the track much, but working with Charlie Walsh on the bike you learn that you can get very fit other ways than just running.
What has been the worst part?
Being injured and not being able to participate in the main training sessions with the other boys.
How big a step up has the training regime been from what you have previously been used to?
It is an enormous step-up and something that I have not experienced until now. Pre season training has been very intense and the volume of work that is done is a real eye-opener.
The most “interesting” teammate you’ve met so far; why?
Nathan Bassett is a different character.
How have you settled into life as an AFL footballer, in a new state (if applicable) and in a totally new environment?
Honestly I don’t really feel like an AFL footballer because I haven’t played yet, but in terms of a new environment, I love Adelaide. I have heaps of mates here so I am enjoying the change.
Goals for 2005?
I want to play as consistent footy as possible with my SANFL side and hopefully if an opportunity presents to make an AFL debut, I will grab it with both hands.
Outside of training hours, what have you been doing in your spare time?
I spend time with my friends, go the beach because I like Adelaide’s beaches and go to the movies.
Good build - AFL ready , good attitude, loves Adelaide, and apparently very talented but held back with the tendonitis.
Looking foward to see him play
