iPhone data usage problem

Before I phone Telstra and let them have it I thought I would post something here. I just got an email stating I am just over 50% into my monthly data usage (1.5 g) but I am only 5 days into my new allowance. This morning it was 230mb and all of a sudden it is over 750mb. All I have done is watch a 30 minute live stream. Surely this would not use 500 mb.

Ummmmm........ if it was at a high res it could quite easily chew that kind of data. What phone is it? I know Android devices let you see how much data each app has used, I believe iPhones can too somewhere in the setttings.

Iphone5s. Really? I thought maybe if I watched a movie but not a short thing although it was a live streamed event which probably makes a difference.

Depends on the source and the format, youtube at 720p chews up to 37meg for a 5 minute video apparently. If you go to "settings" -> "cellular" you should be able to see what used the data.

I would recommend using wifi where possible if listening to radio or watching streaming video for any significant period of time. If you are using data too quickly, I would recommend
- buy a data pack just for this once, it will probably be cheaper than excess data
- switch off cellular data and just use wifi for the rest of the month
