Figured it was time to start a thread on the best T20 comp in the world given that player retentions have started in the build up to the big player auction on Feb 12th.

Will place the important dates here when I can find the time, and I'll put the squads as they are completed on the post below this one. Get behind the Daredevils, who have not retained any players from their roster, making IPL history!

Looking at the retentions below, there are some surprises. I really like Delhi's bold move of scrapping their whole list to start afresh, though Warner and Pietersen may have been good players to keep. Sehwag being let go, if FB is anything to go by, has been a very unpopular decision. :p

Kings XI have chosen to retain Miller and Vohra, very weird indeed. Chennai keep the spine of their team, though overlooking Hussey for Bravo was an interesting choice.

Steyn and Dhawan were common sense retentions for Sunrisers, while Watson and co. were pretty straightforward for the Royals as well. RCB keeping their three big batting guns means they will definitely be in contention again.

So who do you think will win? Who are you supporting? Who should your team sign in the auction?

Sure Delhi aren't keeping Warner?

MIich's asking price is going to go through the roof as Mumbai aren't keeping him.

Reports were saying that Delhi had kept Warner and Pietersen but their official FB page and cricinfo refute that, so I'm going with nil nada zilch.

Why is it weird Kings kept David Miller thorne89? He smashed a 38 ball tonne last IPL!

I guess because he's not a big name, but if he's on little money I suppose it makes sense to keep him!

If I remember correctly, he isn't on little money at all, couple of teams got into a bidding war for him last year. Has also played 100 T20 games now, and hit another couple of half centuries last IPL. He's a big enough name for T20, and was popular with the Kings supporters.

You have a better memory than me. :)

He's handy, but I'd have thought they could do better. Kings XI are pretty happy with mediocrity though!

There aren't many people who can hit 38 ball hundreds mate.

Not that I know of, have no idea why.
I'm fairly sure the only way we can watch it over here is online, which is annoying. Would get a lot more viewers if FTA could cover it, but I guess the TV rights would be bloody expensive.

The YouTube streams are quite good but yes, it is very annoying that the FTA rights disappeared for whatever reason. Easily the best domestic T20 comp in the world and it is a shame that it can't be enjoyed by more Aussies.

I watched a couple of games on youtube last year - quality was exceptionally good.

There is no way I can really give a damn about any of the teams because they change so dramatically year to year, but I do enjoy following particular players that I like and seeing how they go.

Isn't it too early for a sticky thread? The auction itself is a month away and then the actual tournament more than two months maybe.

how the hell do you develop an attachment to any team with such enormous turnover of players?

For me, I originally supported the Daredevils because of Warner and Nannes, but our absolute incompetence over the seasons has meant I'm sticking with them until they finally fulfill their potential. :(

It's not that bad, anyway. Chennai have retained the core of their team. Mumbai were held together by Tendulkar and now Rohit Sharma/Pollard/Malinga. etc.

Why do you need to develop an attachment?

I've watched plenty of the BBL and don't really have a team, I genuinely support whoever is playing the Stars :p

Originally supported Kolkata due to their opening combination of Chris Gayle and Brendon Mccullum. But now I don't really care (well I never did), still enjoy watching it though and like watching to see how the Aussies go. I will admit I actually enjoy the novelty factor of these twenty20 leagues .

The revolving door of players moving from one team to the next destroys the word team.

I would like a player attached to a team for 3 seasons as a minimum or trading or something, I mean there is just no attachment to any team that you can have.

Similarly I struggle for a while to follow who is playing, maybe it should be State of Origin.

I really like the fact there are four internationals in the side, so there is always a chance players from multiple countries are on the same team, like Chennai who had Bravo, Hussey and Albie Morkel.

The player auction is also awesome to follow live. I find it fascinating how some players fetch a million plus in a bidding war and other stars go for their base price.

It's a very good competition, hopefully we get some FTA coverage this season. Though the YouTube stream is excellent,

Going to be an amazing auction this year. Clear fixture so everyone available and the form of some players coming in is going to make for some interesting bidding.
