I've got an iPod, and it's a bloody good little unit. Dunno anything about the other one you've mentioned. Never heard of it in fact...

Yes, take a look at the alternatives first because they will definitely give better value for money. However, the Iriver does have plenty more features than the Ipod.. Check out some reviews of the iriver IHP series...

I've got an iRiver, and I wouldn't swap it, but that's because I like to walk through Melbourne Central station pretending I'm the kid out of Freestyler.
