does every mark or kick from Thomas/Didak/Davis have to potentially be mark or goal of the year? Can they not just turn around and put it straight through the sticks...?
I know when we're up and it works out - we love it. But when we're desperately in need of 6 points...it pi$$es me the f off.....

Sorry...just my opinion and just venting...yesterday really hurt....:(

Thomas was guilty of being too flashy yesterday. No doubt. Leon is carrying an injury, and shouldn't have been playing. Didak was great early, but faded out. I don't really see what you're saying, given that they're crumbers when in the forward line, it's their job to kick crumbing goals. As for kicks and marks, what the ____ are you on about? Didak is far and away our best player, and it's shown this year - being in the best every week except this week. How can you have a go at him I'll never know.

I think you're just hurting a bit too much Kazbah... dont get blinded by emotion now...

That said, Thomas does sometimes show a bit too much flair - when the simple things could be just as effective...

As much as i dislike Didak, his disposal is pretty much close to flawless.

Not even going to comment on Davis.

Maybe I am Elliot G.....

I will admit though...i'm a bit harsh on Dids....it's more Thomas i was frustrated at..sorry hellfire...

I'm not sure if that's a criticism that can be levelled at Didak. He's not flashy so much as improvisational, and there were several times yesterday where his creative thinking manufactured opportunities for the team. As Elliot G says, his disposal by foot is second to none.

Thomas can definitely be accused of being too flashy. That kick into the 50 metre arc on the run was a terrible choice. He tried to be too clever with a kick off the side of the boot, straight to a Carlton player. There was another example up forward where he was in a marking situation, tried to take a speccy and actually missed everything completely, failing to make a contest.

I also think flashy is an unfair description of Davis as well. He's a forward pocket player, and as such it's a position which by nature requires kicks from a tight angle and crumbing. I don't perceive this as being flashy, that's just his role in the team. He had an off day yesterday, but I have a feeling he's carrying an injury as he's not running nearly as freely as usual.

****Not being a smart arse serious question******

Did Dale try to kick a goal over his head? I think it was during the second quarter, about 10 metres out, instead of turning and snapping a goal he tried to kick it over his head, the ball went out of bounds....... What was he doing? Also, when there were three Pies players in our goalsquare onto one, and Dale, instead of kicking it through took it out of the goalsquare and towards to boundry again. That was oh so very frustrating.

Dale Thomas, if he wasn't the X-factor of the side, deserves to be dropped this week. The low percentage, show-pony stuff was at its best and completely un-called for, but he embarrassed the club with around 8-10 dives in a marking contest, looking at the umpire for a free kick...seriously, i was appauled that a Pies player would do the selfish dives on every occassion he did.

The best thing to come out of yesterday for the Pies is that it might be a reality check for players like Thomas and co. Similar to when you guys smashed us, the media got stuck into cats players for being flashy, not physical enough etc. With Malthouse at the helm, I suspect the message will get through to Thomas and co reasonably quickly and rather bluntly. Pencil pies in for a win next week.

Thomas needs to be dropped regardless - Ive posted about this before and ppl think i have a vendetta against him, i dont, but i hate his style of play.
When he plays well he's awesome, doing everything we can only dream of, playing up to the crowd (which pisses me off at the best of times) and creating real problems for the opposition.
When he has a bad game, he becomes absolutely useless, whinging to umpires and, as u said Gyro, diving in contests. Forget the nickname "daisy", he becomes the 'shovel', digs himself a hole and waits for the final siren, or junk time, before he comes out.

He need to stop being a f@#king selfish footballer but most importantly he needs to learn that even in his bad games, he can still influence games, by helping his teammates, shepherds, tackles and running hard and not just go into hiding, time for him to get a reality check and play VFL!

i appreciate all the opposition supporters coming in and offering some objective views

i think us pies supporters are a little too blinded at the moment to be thinking clearly

we're not all one-eyed idiots.. surprisingly... some of us, well, just love footy - as well as our respective teams..

and as much as it may pain some of you to read this - part of me is actually glad to see Carlton doing kinda well again.. that said, i can imagine your pain.. it'd be like hawks going down to essendon twice in a year.. wouldn't be particularly happy times...

no doubt the pies will bounce back next week....

I don't think Collingwood can afford to drop Thomas. When he kicks a big goal it seems to lift the Pies.
I don't like him, i don't like his style of play, and am in agreement with Bodiefish. He needs to become more of a team player. But i don't think he'll get dropped.

Thomas is great to watch. But i get the feeling he is reading his name in the papers too much, and getting a bit carried away.

Mick should have a word in his ear, tell him to continue taking the game on, but kind of reel it in a bit when the low percentage stuff creeps into his game.

You can only drop someone if there is someone in the seconds to replace him that will do a better job.

I dont agree that Thomas should be dropped.

Lifeless Fraser should go for Cam Wood. He should then be traded at the end of the season for Warnock.

There is no one in the seconds who can replace Thomas.

There isn't anyone to replace Thomas but he needs to do more. A flashy goal isn't everything, i thought he was going to be really great this year but compared to Murphy he is well behind at the nminute.

Fraser needs some grunt or heart too easily beaten.

I think Thomas tried to replicate what has worked well for him over the last few weeks, aka going for a huge run. However after his performance yesterday where it didn't pay off I hope he learns he does not have to be fancy all of the time and perhaps to do the team thing and pass it off instead of being run down. Don't get me wrong this kid is a star and I love watching him but if he can learn to judge these situations better, when he can afford to do it or when we just need him to bang it long, he will become an even better player.

I haven't seen to much selfish play from Didak or Davis they sum up the situation well and when theres no other option they go for the impossible, but I may be bias on that one just look at my name :p

Daisy had 4 good games in a row before yesterday. He tackled, chased etc and did a few miraculous things. Yesterday, he had a poor one (but he wasn't the only one).

Now, after one bad game all these fools come out and suggest he be dropped. Clueless people with no sense.

Thomas is given a green light by MM to go for it and try to create something out of nothing. Yes, he needs greater discretion but he is still learning. The game, and Collingwood fc, would be much poorer without players of his special ability.

Exactly he shouldn't be dropped. He made a few bad judgments yesterday and when he is able to make better judgment he will be an elite player. He is still a kid and is learning and will have games like that, as Mick says its a learning curb for him.
