Roast Is it just me?

Or did the umpires try their hardest to try and make intimate love to our bottoms with some shocking free kicks against us, and some shocker non decisions for us. Ask Mitch Morton how he feels, or Rance in the First quarter when Jurruh is all over him like a cheap suit just to name a couple. It's getting worse? Or is it just me?

Makes you think ... They must have money on the game

Its a positive sign...when they dont love us!...:):thumbsu:...

Seemed to be a lot of holding around the bounces that went unpunished. Jacko gave away his couple of obligatory stupid free kicks, but I thought he was unlucky to miss out on a couple as well.

I actually no longer understand the holding the ball rule after being there today.

i think what they do is give the benefit of doubt to the better or perceived better players and teams, because they just assume that because theyre better that they do the right thing. being crap like we have been, and the hype around melbourne despite their horrid year, that means we fall on the wrong side more than not.

today was absolutely pathetic though. generally it was ok you expect some poor decisions, i still think foleys free and goal was a bit iffy. however it was as if the holding the ball rule didnt exist for them, while the umps were probably so surprised that they could lay a tackle at all that they thought they should reward them for the effort, like a well done award.

thought there was a dead set shocker in q1 when jurrah clearly interfered in marking contest with rance.play went on and they goaled...a couple of blatant holding the balls that make you wonder what the bleedin definition is

I was third row off the fence one bay accross from the cheersquad, and that was almost in front of me. Mate, it was one of those ones, where you see it, you wait for the decision, it never comes, you go ape droppings.

There were a few shockers both ways today, but compared to the bottom smashing we copped by the umps at Subi a few weeks back, it was bliss.

The umpiring was horrible against us cap, I seldom make an issue of it, but today really stood out as unacceptably poor and unacceptably biased. Offhand I'd say there were at least a dozen non-calls and calls against us which were completely beyond dispute, and maybe another dozen which could easily have gone our way. They certainly changed the face of the game and swung momentum away from us and against us - virtually continually over the four quarters too.

Rule interpretations change every round and every game of each round, even different players within the same game get different interpretations, it's beyond pathetic and it gets worse every year.

is that what the issue was between Rance and Jarrah? i watched it on tv, got up, came back and Rance was all over a couple of Melbourne players, looked like he was in a right stink of a mood also!

Make no mistake, i thought Essendon were r*ped yesterday too (:D), but you're right, the umps gave them 5 goals in the first half. I just don't understand what is going on. It used to be if the umpiring was shit, it was shit for both teams, but now, it doesn't seem the case. And i'm not suggesting betting or anything, but Dimma should not be so nice in his next chat to that K.Hunt Geish.

Yup, then smashed in a tackle while he was on the ground holding his head.

From before the first bounce our backline (Rance mostly) was getting into them. Jurrah and Watts especially. Not sure why..

because they are both mentally as weak as u can get for an AFL footballer?

and to answer the OP its not just u. my throat hurts :(

First quarter seemed like the general view of the crowd was that we were getting a good deal with the umps and after that I didn't really notice. Considering I usually have the customary bias of any supporter I assumed it was at least fair if not slanted in our favour. The Morton one was bizarre though, even the umpire seemed to be confused by his decision as he ran up to Morton as if to check he was okay then did a couple of circles on the spot. Was also a strange one when Edwards tackled someone by the raised wrist of the Melbourne player and the umpire seemed to think he tackled him around the head.

Some players go into their shell when fired up (i.e. Deledio), others play well. Maybe they go into their shell when targeted. Maybe off field they pissed Rance off, who knows.

We did get a good run for 1 quarter mainly because our pressure was amazing. Then we hardly had a free kick after that.

What do you expect when you have 9 umpires officiating. All anyone wants from umpires is consistency. Somehow the AFL thinks you can get more consistency from introducing more and more umpires which is actually impossible.

That should not impact on why we get smashed every second week.

Meh. Thought we did ok in the first quarter and pretty even for the rest, with a couple of glaring non-decisions going against us. We also picked up a couple of frees that I thought were not there. Not great, but to call it a big difference is a bit OTT IMHO.

It is the inconsistency that annoys me. Cotchin was held onto by Bartram all day and I don't think he got one free kick from it at all. Jack was being manhandled by his opponents all day as well and not once did he get a free. It is like they expect Jack to just mark the ball and if he doesn't well it's play on.
