Is just time before we start dominating when the 24 and under group mature?

Here is a best 22 for players 24 and under.

Chapman Cox Walker

Young Logue Clark

Darcy Serong Brayshaw

Johnson Erasmus O'Driscoll

Shultz Amiss Henry

Frederick Treacey Meek

Bench:
Sturt, Western, Brodie, Banfield

Eme:
Worner, Bennings, Crowden

Nope.

As I have stated.....

I look back and wised freo took a punt on a teenage WA inside mid in those 2016 and 2017 drafts. get 2 or 3 of them back in 2016-17 and they would be 23-25 years old now.
We just picked up Brodie for free who is that exact player, it might be the difference between us making finals sooner than later.

There wasn’t a heck of a lot of midfield talent in the 2016 draft bar florent, berry and botlen (who no one was going to pick in the first round) Ironically, the 4th best mid might be Brodie- who we have.
I am not sure you can have a go at list management in 2016 when they get Darcy,Cox, and Ryan in later picks. (In fact pundits not even associated with Freo often comment on how we won that draft).
All up, there has been some absolutely exceptional drafting in the last 5 years bar maybe Logue and Henry.

Well we either need a generational talent to break out hard enough to make Sam Walsh look pedestrian or we will be have a hole that is currently being very effectively filled by Barra suddenly exposed.

Not quite following the purpose of the thread eastfreo75 but because I'll never miss an opportunity to do a future best 22, here's mine come 2024 when we start our dynasty / 6 year run of contention. I am very confident the best 22 will look something like this even sooner than we think

Ryan Pearce Young
Clark Cox Walker
Chapman Serong O'Driscoll
Sturt Jackson Schultz
Switta Tabs Frederick

Darcy Brayshaw Brodie

Johnson Fyfe Erasmus Henry

Fyfe to play mainly forward by then. Amiss and Treacy to keep getting games as possible and take over from Tabs shortly after 2024.

Think only Fyfe and Pearce are above 30 in this list come 2024 and we are ****ing primed

Sheeds in 1993 won a flag with the
Baby Bombers, do we dare to dream?
Only the coach could put a brake on us.
We won’t fail due to lack of talent.

Hmmm… very confident (in bold font no less) that Jackson will be our CHF…..

That’s a little bit exciting to hear.

Had too much time on my hands and have worked out all of their ages come Oct 1 2024. Aside from Fyfe and Tabs, the rest of the team is in the sweet spot.....

Ryan (28) Pearce (29) Young (23)
clark (23) Cox (26) Walker (21)
O Driscol(22) Serong (23) Chapman (22)
sturt (24) Jackson (23) Schultz (26)
Switta (27) Tabs (31) Freddy (24)
Darcy (26) Brayshaw (24) Brodie (26)
Johnson (21) Fyfe (33) Erasmus (20) Henry (23)

You’d have to think at least one and maybe even 2 new yet to be drafted players will be in the team in 2024, especially from this years draft. Even if we trade early picks to get jackson this year we will still take some new players later in the 2022 draft.

We have so much young talent, it'd be hard to see anyone drafted outside the first round being in the round 1 team in 2024. It's also not JL's M.O to play the kids straight away

so, here's a question for you, re. depth. On the assumption that depth is not the same as having a bunch of late round selections from the previous draft, who do you see still in the squad as depth from those who are currently on our list?

Amiss & Treacy — already accounted for
Hughes — because still under contract for 2024
Logue — because he's arguably stiff to miss out on your B22
Aish — because proven role player at minimum
Meek — because quality, but will he stick around to be the designated back-up?
Benning — because the very definition of a project player

A bit light on mid and small forward depth. So who else? Crowden? Tucker? Western? Worner? what about Wilson? Hamling?

And if not these players, are you bringing in a bit of experience somehow?

It's a great looking B22. But on the average age and experience measures, are we not looking at something similar to what we're fielding now?

I expect pretty much the same team as have now with another few 50+ games and 2 preseasons under the belt, and that's the way it should be. A stable squad to contend with for a prolonged time.

Yes to everyone you mentioned pretty much. Crowden probably gone, Tucker and Hamling I'd love to keep as mature depth but they might want to try elsewhere. I expect Wilson to be gone. We'll bring in players through the NGA and lower draft picks moving forward

Feels like two to three injuries to B10 players away from falling apart. I know that's kind of true for any side (and no different from how it's been for us for years) but can't help but feel it's a little fragile. Something that a decent free agent might help fix. Maybe the brother of one of our current players?

It's a contender, that's all you can really ask for because a lot still has to go right to win a flag, just look at Brisbane or Port who havent been able to climb the final summit. Any good team is impacted by injuries, but good teams also can cover injuries better with the system in place and more mature / experienced back-ups to best 22.

I'm confident our best 30 will be good enough to seriously contend in 2 years time, and contend for a long period of time. We'll round out the edges as we go along. A FA or two would certainly help

yeah, this is what I'm getting at. That B22 excites the pants off of me, but I hate the thought of replacing a Brayshaw or a Chapman with, say, a Tucker — though maybe I'm being harsh on him. To put it another way, I wouldn't be unhappy seeing Erasmus and Johnson (as the two youngest and least experienced players in that 22) not being walk-up starts on account of there being more experienced options of more or less equal quality that they're competing against.
