The gigantic ship that is Australian tennis, is it turning around slowly.

We have the top ranked 17, 18, 19 and 20 year old males on the circuit and a handy 16 year old female.

Perhaps the next few years will be interesting from an Aussie point of view.

I think we'll start to repopulate the top 100. Gone are the days when Hewitt and maybe someone else filled the top 100, we'll have 4-5 in there for the next several years I think. Just cant see any male outside Tomic being a top 50 regular at this stage.

Matosevic is the only current aussie male in the top 50. Although I cant see him making an impact at the open. 2nd/3rd round at best.

While I like Marinko, the reality is that he is already quite old, and he also did well at 250 tournaments with weak fields. For instance, I cant see him finishing top 50 for the next 2-3 years, maybe in and out.

While we'll probably never again see the heights of Australian tennis of the 1960's and '70's thanks to the truly global nature of the modern game, it'd be great if we had a half-dozen or so somewhere in the top 100, making regular appearances deep in tournaments. The late 90's-early 00's was a decent period, with Rafter, Scud and Hewitt sharing 10 GS final appearances between them, and two World No.1's. If we saw a return to that sort of form, I'd freaking love it!
