I am looking for a new computer and have found an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ system for $699.00 (that's with a 30GB HD and 256 mb RAM - no monitor). I can upgrade to 80 GB and 512 MB ram for a total (package) cost of $824.00.

Can anyone tell me if this is this a good price please?

For example as i am looking for a computer also i just checked a few sites and i could get a computer like the one you said (with the 512mb RAM and 80 gig hd) AND a monitor for only 899 i think it was. Shows that the other things (ie cd rom, modem, video card) have a large baring on the cost of the package.

Yeah its not a bad price.

I would go for the upgrade BUT then again, I'm a gamer so that might not mean much. ;)

Video card is a rather important component performance wise. Esp. if you are playing games.

A lot of package systems have GeForce 4 MX cards and they just won't cut it for much longer at all.

Difference between a crap and an awesome video card can be $600!!

find out the full specs of the systems so that we know more. Its most likely that the system has onboard video, which, quite frankly, sucks. Also, the speed of the Hard drive is important. See if the drive is 5400RPM or 7200RPM. Obviously, the higher numbered one is better. What do you want the computer for? Work/games or both? Because if it has onboard video and you only want a word processing/internet etc. system, then that would be OK. More info please...;)
