Is this any good for a gaming PC?

No good for gaming given it has an integrated graphics card but nothing is stopping you buying a decent card (~200) and making it okay.

Also if you ever plan on overclocking it, the memory at 1333 MHz is pretty slow so that could be an issue.

AMD chips are behind Intel at this stage.

Plus eBay is a bit sketchy.

Something like this:

Would be better.

Although, getting individual parts and either building yourself, or paying like $50 for a shop like Umart to do it for you, is probably better still.

'm guessing you're in a rural area then?

GTA was one of the most GPU and CPU intensive games when it came out.

Minecraft and PC won't require much GPU power. MW (COD: MW?) and GTA would require a bit more, especially if you want good framerates at big resolutions.

I think something slightly more powerful would be needed. It could run it, but won't be high settings. Maybe on Medium quality. Don't quote me on that though. GPUs move so fast, it's hard to keep up with all the cards.

Yeah, you can get those cards much cheaper, if you want. 6850 can be had for under $160.

Although shipping would push costs up if you aren't near a Metro area

PCCG has a shipping calculator for your Postcode to give you an idea

It's like Lego, but a bit easier, as it only goes it one way.

All you would have to do was pop out a small bit of metal on the case, and then just put the card in the only slot it will fit. And then plug one/two power cords in.

Skip to about 1 minute. You can see how simple it is.

Up to you which card you want to get (they will all go in the same place)

Very easy indeed.. That's pretty much how everything goes in. People get intimidated by PCs, but they are very simple to put together. Everything can only go in one way, and it all just clips in easily.

The 2400 is a good chip. The K version is better because you can overclock it, but you wouldn't expect a casual user to have to do that.

Mobo is fine. Z68 board is better, similar to the chip, because it allowed OCing. So don't worry about that.

RAM is fine. 8GB might be a bit overkill, but won't really matter. RAM is cheap.

GPU as discussed.

HDD: 1TB drive is fine. Maybe ask in an email which brand and model. Some brands are more likely to fail than others.

Case and Power supply: Maybe you should shoot them a comment/email and ask which Brand both are. Don't want a sketchy brand PSU that wont last.

OS: Do you have a W7 Product Key? If not, you will need to factor that into your costs. Looks like $105 for Home Premium 64bit (make sure you get 64bit, as 32bit will waste your RAM as it can only use ~3.2GB, and you will have 8GB).

Peripharals: Do you need a Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard?

Software: Probably should ask them not to install any of that crap on there. They will just be trial versions, which will expire, and just bloat the system down.

Can buy Office if you need from them. $109 for the base package from them, or get a better package yourself for $99 from here> http://www.microsoft.com/australia/office/startinguni/

Norton is bloated and not worth paying for, get Microsoft Security Essentials for free from the MS site.

Adobe Reader is pretty slow and bloated as well. Can get a smaller quicker PDF viewer like Foxit reader yourself.

Drivers: Well they better have them pre-installed :p

IE9: Lol they say they include this as part of their software package :p

Overall, it's a pretty solid system. And looks like a good price, without knowing the exact brans they will be using for RAM/GPU/Case/PSU

Whirpool (big Australian forum) had this as one of the Gaming builds

Total: $990
CPU: Intel Core i5 2400 $187
Mobo: ASRock Z68 Extreme4 B3 $205
RAM: Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1333 $43
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB $59
GPU: 2GB AMD Radeon HD6950 $269
Case: Coolermaster HAF912 Advanced $115
PSU: Antec HCG-520 $85
ODD: LiteOn DVD burner $29

So looking pretty similar to that, except that has spent a bit more on GPU and Motherboard, as well as Case/PSU.
