Farmer - played 17 games this season. Who else will play the BP role at least for now?

Moore. Are you kidding? Our best all round defender, best result in the B&F out of all our defenders. Plays 3rd tall role well enough for now.

Hicks - Would rather develop him than King or White who are stop gaps. He has better football IQ and skills. Looks to have put on some much needed bulk.

Houli - Not sure. Will play some games and maybe be in and out but had him there for round 1. Slight Upgrade on the 18th-22nd player but not sure he will be around in 3 years time. We will see.

Grigg - You'd think so.

Agree with most of that Barnzy but King deserves his spot and will continue to do so if he holds his form of late in the season.

Hicks has a long way to go IMO to pass White also.

Sorry MT but in my mind McGaunne is on borrowed time is poor defensively , lacks composure when he has the aggot and has shocking disposal . Is simply back in case two of Moore, Thursty , Astbury or Gourdis go down and if Post , Dea and Rance sagnate . If those three develop as expected, McGaunne is about the 8th in line KPD !

I reckon he's probably our most important tall defender. I reckon hardwick may rate him the same

forget about games played mad one. just look at strengths and weaknesses.
gourdis has it all over mcguane.
and ya know your right gourdis has much to prove but hes now at a level where it is all about opportunity. gourdis attributes are telling us if given a go he will be a much better long term option than mcguane.

ya know the one major knock on gourdis is his kicking as such he too is not suited to a third tall role.
his attributes are well documented fantastic jump, super quick for his size. actually has genuine size and will get bigger.

i dont know if you realise it but we are in rebuild we are attempting to replace ordinary players with better players.
for 6 yrs mcguane has proven himself to be very ordinary so has will thursfield.
yes they have had their moments but neither are capable or have the attributes to play as a third tall, kelvin moore does.
you are in denial madone who would you rather see getting a game in the key posts the promising gourdis astbury grimes and post or the proven 6 yr ordinary mcguane.
who would you prefer as a third running tall mcguane or moore.

the simple fact is to become a top side we just have to do better than the likes of mcguane as a kpp we may have to do better than moore as a third tall.
atm the third tall role is moores hes easily the best option.
at some stage next yr i hope to see a revamped backline that goes.
B - Farmer - Gourdis - Moore/Grimes
HB - Deledio - Post/Astbury - Dea/Orielly.

why these players.
Farmer - was recruited as a small defender, this is yr 4 for him we need to find out one way or another if he has it we also need to get games into him.

gourdis - will enter yr 4 has the attributes now its time to see if he can play and most certainly its time to get games into him.

Moore - well he is the best genuine tall running option we have. he also offers cover if one of the young kpds get badly beaten.

Deledio - is our general and gives the polish and running power you need coming of hb.

Post - my choice for chb. good mover agile great in the air with decent delivery i choose him at chb because i think that is his position.as a third yr tall we need to get games into him.

Astbury - should play as the hit up forward but has already shown he can play back. should get games at both ends of the ground for now.

Dea - geez i like this kid tiger bob i apologise to ya you were right.
hes that medium sized good skilled straight line defender all teams need. as a medium its time to get games into him physically he is ready.

Orielly - what is not to like about him thus far as a 23 yr old next yr we need to fast track him again a lovely size and hard running neat effective kick i hope he can put on 3 or 5 kg this off season.

Grimes - was over the moon we took him last yr i had him at pick 67 has all the attributes to succeed imo. im hoping he will get some games he has some size to add to his frame this will take time.

then theres newman and grigg who i hope will predominately play midfield but if problems arise thru games they are there for flexability.

as a rebuilding side there is no room for ordinary underachievers they have to be weeded out.

Moore could be against Rance, Post for the 3rd tall back spot. Even mcgaune and thursfield.

Could see orielly, dea, webberly, contin
Maybe even houli grigg challange for full back spot.

Grimes looks alright too.

so you want to play the bigger stronger quicker player in gourdis on the oppositions smaller talls. as far as attributes go gourdis is easily a better option to play fb on the bigger players. imo astbury or post are the future at chb. it only leaves the tall running role and mcguane is the last person you want in that role.his decision making with ball in hand is deplorable and his skills are not good enough for the role.
mcguane is not in competition with moore for a spot hes in competition with post astbury and gourdis and in time grimes. bring on the new i say they cant be any worse than the old.
no mcguane or thursfield will show we are actually rebuilding the back half replacing deficient players for hopefully better players.

100% correct

Well Gourdis has alot of work to do to get to Mcguane's stopping level. How often do you see a 6'4" defender make a 40m dash out of the goal square? Mcguane does what any other full back does and stops his opponent then gathers the loose ball and handballs it off. Full backs aren't meant to provide run, that's what the back pockets and flankers are there for. A player like Gourdis would use his run at half back playing as a 3rd tall. Moore provides no more run than the average player and he's just too small to play as a 3rd tall. His kicking is pretty standard. Mcguane has always played deep in defence so we can't really judge whether he'd be good at half back or not. I was watching 3 or 4 replays since our last game and Moore turned it over just as much as Mcguane did. Anyway when we play Carlton we'll be coming up against some talls Waite(194cm), Henderson(196cm) and either a resting ruckman or O'Hailpin who'll be about 200cm. Mcguane(192cm) plays very well on the 200cm types. Astbury(195cm) and Gourdis(193cm) will take Henderson and Waite. You cannot play Moore on these type of players. He'll be fighting for a spot with Deledio, Newman, Connors, Farmer and Webberley

Just a few things to to debate wit u MT...

first point.. refer Scarlett / Lake
second point.. Thursfield does the same thing & I rate him a better stopper than McGuane. In saying that, I know who's hands I would prefer the ball in out of McGuane & Thursfield too. As for the latter half of that commebt, i.e fullbacks & run, refer to my first point.
