Ok guys. I think one of the frequently asked questions is if a certain player is a kepper. He might have been a rookie or a gun prospect at the start of the season however a few (or maybe even one) bad game has got you reaching for the axe and looking at other tasty options.

A few weeks ago Stevens was looking like a dud and a few people even traded him. I know I was going to do the old Stevens to Ablett trade but didn't.

My question for those playing at home, especially Swans fans, is that is Martin Mattner a keeper?

He has had 3 average weeks. His 88 last week was all but scored in a quarter and a half and he went from 75 at half time to 88 at full time. His monster score of 30 odd this weekend speaks for itself.

There are some tasty options in the backline. Depending on my second trade for the week I fall just short of Stiffy but Bock and P.Burger have me very interested.

If I'm going to trade Mattner this is the last chance for a few weeks. He has already dropped 50-60k in one week and his 30 will drag him down further.

What to do?

It's a tough one, I mean, how many people have traded out Kosi just before he went off, or Newman, or Gram, or BJ...

Most players have their bad weeks, and it hurts even more when said player puts out a ton+ the week after you trade them out...

That said, I'm still looking to trade out Waters this week...

I have a new rule that I adhere to in SC - Do not trade a player if his avg. is over 80.

I have learn't my lesson after the last couple of weeks.
Two weeks ago I did the Salopek to Ablett trade. (I think you all know how that has turned out):(
Then last week I wanted to give Newman the axe after two scores in the low 70's & that score of 22. But thankfully I decided to hold off & he comes out & gets 140:cool:.
Mattner has showed he can produce the good with scores of -
Rd.2 = 116
Rd.3 = 117
Rd.4 = 136
Also last week he had 5 clangers & 3 frees against which didn't help

And yes I have him in my team as well & with an avg. of 88.14pts & because of my new rule listed above he will be staying in my team.(For a little bit longer anyway.);)

I look at it this way,
this week - 15 touches, 5 clangers and 3 free's against. = 26
last week - 15 touches, no clangers and no frees against = 88
Plus, Sydney are playing Essendon next week/round.
We all know how little SC points Ess give away..........:p:cool:

Why contemplate trading Mattner when there is bound to be a worse player in your side that needs trading out first.

That's my thoughts.

Waters OUT. GONE :p
Still have Wood (Ahhhh)
J Brown, Rioli.
Armitage/Bird is my 6th centre. lol.

He's struggling to rack up the points with Kennelly back in the Swans side resuming his normal role.

This is more of an issue, especially if Malceski is due back soon. If that happens, get off Mattner in a big way.

Thats a good point.
Ok why dont we name some other players we arent sure if they are keepers or not.

Ill start.

Burton
Porplyzia
Simmonds
B.Jones
Fevola
Bradshaw
Stevens

There isn't!

Players in my team that are potentially not keepers:

Houli (gone next week), Palmer (gone in 2-3 weeks when he maxs out), Rioli (due to gun forwards somewhat struggling this year hes probably a keeper), Porplyzia (will swap for Browny, chappy or BJ depending on form).

Anyway I've decided to keep him, for the moment anyway.

I have Brown, Barlow, Houli, Palmer who need definate upgrades at some point.
Then Gibbs, Rioli, Porpleyzia, Didak as possibles later down the track. With only 12 trades left I'll need to be smart with my upgrades from here and will need to bank on a few of these becoming keepers.
With some of the underperforming guns, the mid priced forwards become reasonably easy upgrades if they can turn it around with only one trade but I don't want to burn of trades on these players before making the essential ones first.

The Houli upgrade this week is frustrating me because making the logical upgrade using Geary leaves me just short of the better midfield prospects with $500K to spend... but my only other option if i want to take advantage of Browne is trading Wonammirri now which seems a waste with his 150 making certain he increases substantially in the next few weeks. With Palmer/Wonnamirri i'd be able to afford an elite mid in a few weeks and an ok midfielder now, but using Wonnammiri now I could grab Cooney with plenty of spare cash then hope Browne goes up enough to make a Palmer/Browne -> Harvey/Judd/Bartel kind of trade, but may fall short and not get one of the top liners.

Thats a good point.

i'd say burton, simmonds (if you have cox as well) and stevens are keepers. personally i'd keep fev as well just because of the delivery he's going to be getting and his ability to score big.

I think it also depends on the player you are trading to.

for example Squibbsy isn't a keeper.. but its pointless trading him to say a Chapman or a Kornes right at this point. However upgrading him to a GAblett, Bartel or Boomer is wise.

Same with Porplyzia.. upgrading to a BJ right now is potentially silly.. but upgrading him to a Pavlich is a winner.

Which is the reasoning which had led me to keep Mattner. Yeh he has been sucking balls but when I look at the options I have i'm better off taking the chance and keeping him.

Yeah but theres heaps of options for Mattner Sparts. How about Stiffy, Bock, Kenelly, Mcleod, Mcdonald, etc? They are the best defenders going around IMO apart from H.Shaw and C.Cornes who I already have.

I know you have Mcleod and a few others from that list but for people like me who have Mattner I would be thinking that a swapp to Stiffy or Bock would be good and not cost too much to upgrade.

Would it be better going for these two or just biting the bullet and going for Mcleod like you did?

McLeod is much safer, Johncock is a good option same with Kennely... McDonald and Bock are riskier because they haven't got the past years form on the board, but they're all in good form atm.

I'll wait a few weeks to make a call on them when i go to upgrade Barlow/Brown... McLeod would be great but after that i'd probably be hoping Kennely is in my price range when the time comes.

I am pretty sure Simmonds will end up a keeper, he's hitting good form and apart from maybe Sandilands/McIntosh the rest of the ruckman aren't really a significant improvement on him. Very hard to get a consistent ruck apart from Cox, so unless you don't have him already I wouldn't bother.

I'm hoping Didak hits some form and pushes his average up a little because I've burnt off too many trades at this point.

Stevens is a keeper until at least much later in the season, there'd be no way he'd be your weakest player at this point...

Rioli was looking good as a keeper, and still is if you ignore last week... dunno, think he'll start to reduce his output towards the end of the season - but Hawthorn is a great team to be a small forward this year....
