There has probably been a thread like this one but I'll do it again.

Is this the team that will take us to our 11th premiership?

If not why and who do we need?

And if yes why ?

Yours truley Bird Man :D

Its pretty obvious what the keys are for the tigs getting an 11th flag. Riewoldt, Martin, Cotchin and Deledio.

You have 4 out and out superstars/future superstars. With the support of players like Foley you are looking good. Questions at the moment about the tigs and if they will make it - tall backmen, there aren't many great ones in the AFL at the moment, are McGuane and Rance enough? Can you find someone to strengthen that backline up. I like the look of Grimes, not so much on Astbury.

Rucks, can Angus and Tyrone form a premiership ruck duo. Angus has had some good performances, but Ruckmen are so hard to tell, could be as good as Jamar, could be as bad a Simon Taylor (although he doesn't seem that dumb). Tyrone's mobility and work up forward have been good, and being able to play another role is very important while this sub rule lasts.

And up forward, can you find that extra big man to support Jack (other than Tyrone). I think the 2 being looked at for this role are Post and Griffiths. I think Griffiths will be the one. Ever since watching him pluck that ball against Port in the wet last year I've just thought he'd be an awesome player, I really hope he can get his body right. Would also like to see a "freak" type player in your forward line, sort of like Morton played, but with less stupidity.

So, like most rebuilding teams, you have an awesome core of players who will be very good, the question is the development from the next level of players and if they can take you to a flag.

I'd like to think our best 22 in the 2nd half of the season would be:

FB batchelor mcguane newman
HB grimes rance deledio
C edwards cotchin conca
HF helbig post king
FF nahas reiwoldt vickery
FOLL browne martin foley
INT griffiths astbury jackson houli

Not sure if Browne would jump Angus before the year is out. Don't mind the rest of it, but not sure if anybody on that bench makes a good sub

Sub Astbury. I reckon Browne could be a pretty good player. I rate him above Graham. I'd prefer to have 1 of Jacko and Grigg in the side for now.

Hrmm, the other thing I can't believe I didn't pick up on is no Moore. Assuming he gets over his hip at some point (which isn't a certainty, but I hope so), you'd have to have him before Rance

Way to top heavy. You cannot carry Griff, Browne, Vicks, Jack, Rance, Mcguane, Post and Astbury. You need runners on the bench. I know you love Mcguane but he is the first to go. And I think it's between astbury and post for CHB.

Need Moore in the team as well. Would like to see Dea at some stage this year.

Moore as a running defender? I'd prefer Deledio, Newman and Batchelor

Nup Moore is better as a third tall and Rance is improving every week need to keep getting games into him.

Agree with that, Wallace tried to play him as a runner, it didn't work. Moore as a key back, taking Rances/McGuane's spot. Reads the play better than both of them, and plays far smarter (and also never punched Buddy in the face ;))

Too tall. You can't have 2 talls on the bench, that team would get absolutely run off their feet.

Your talls have to be:

2/3 big backs - from Mcguane, Rance, Grimes, Astbury, Moore & Thursfield. The third has to be a bit versatile.
2 big forwards - from Riewoldt, Miller, Post & Griffiths
1 ruck - from Graham, Browne & Derickx
1 ruck/forward - appears to be only Vickery for this spot, maybe Post.

Long term on current form I see it as:

Batchelor, Rance, Newman, Grimes, Astbury, Deledio.
Graham, Cotchin, Martin, Foley, Jackson, Conca.
Nahas, Griffiths, Grigg, Vickery, Riewoldt, King.
Houli, Edwards, White, Helbig.

I think Mcguane will get overtaken in the long run, as Astbury is too good with the ball not to have him back there. Moore will be surpassed by Grimes.

Hopefully new draft picks keep coming in, and putting pressure on the fringe players for positions.

Obviously going to be a number of changes. Guys like Post, Griffiths and Astbury will all come in, as well as perhaps Helbig. Can't discount new recruits either.

I think you'll find the team that goes deep in September for us (hopefully) in a few years time will be markedly different from our team at present.

There will be 2-3 years of recruits, axings, surprisingly good rookies, players that retire (Newman), and others that may just drop right off their form.

At the moment Jack, Lids, Cotch, Martin and probably Foley are certainties, the rest...we just don't know. Safe to say the young list is shaping up so well at the moment.

Uou could add Jackson, Vickery, Conca, Nahas, Batchelor, Houli and (if he can stay fit) Griffiths to the list of certaintiess IMO.

I would suspect we will target other clubs players again for needs like we did this season.

Hopefully we add 2 more starting 22 players again through trading/PSD and then add another 2 starting 22 players again in the draft.

History says some of the previous draftees will step also.

I would expect 3-6 players coming into our best 22 as soon as next season.
