Only one more game for Aker - a 'farewell' game in Round 18. Won't be playing in the finals, if they make it.

What was the initial agreement?

Was for all 9 home games and any away games if the opposition were willing to help with the costs.

He's open to play a couple of games next year with Glenorchy if they want him, so that could be a positive.

Who knows? I remember BF members having a good old laugh to think some local club might get Aker down to play here in Tassie. Glenorchy did & weren't their some egg on faces about that:eek:.
Well he's played a number of games including some away games. Maybe he's only got one more game but thats more than anyone thought could happen. Maybe other clubs will learn from that & try to promote the league like Glenorchy have. That first game with the biggest SWL roster crowd was something special & shows that people will turn up to worthwhile events. :thumbsu:

That's 2 now to Darren Winter. First was Brown at North Hobart after Lauderdale pants them, now Howard after Lauderdale pants Glenorchy.

Wonder if Brown will take over at Glenorchy??

Wonder who's next for Winter:D

Well is certainly a massive fall from grace!! Round 1 with 10000 people attending, to this. Aker jumped ship earlier than most would have thought and now byron. Players have to be accountable for on field performances and the last 4 to 6 weeks have been s@#t house :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

The good old Ex Devils guys love jumping in and taking over sides mid year. I heard he is taking training tonight, not sure about taking over but wouldn't surprise me! AFL tas sending the clones into enemy territory to drum up support!
Armstrong will coach next yr too, the magpies would be the only club that can pay him the same sought of money afltas do to do the mariners.

I think AFLTas will need more than that to drum up support at KGV. Listening to Steve Allie on the abc radio today & some people involved at NHO, the clubs have had enough of the continual crap coming out of the Argyle st empire.
It appears that AFLTas want to short change the clubs with the next TSL agreement. I think some clubs are now seeing that AFLTas will burn them, just like they are doing to Hobart, if the next agreement isnt changed. The current proposal apparently favours AFLTas to change payments to clubs & keep all the sponsorship & finals money. It seems that most clubs in the south now see that they are going to go broke if this current setup continues. Apparently the northern clubs are yet to have an input into this. I wonder what Burnie, Devonport & South Launy will do? They seem to be getting looked after just fine:eek: A 5 team TSL will look good:eek:
I reckon the only club thats made a profit with the gate this year would be Glenorchy! I was told that North Hobart is way down on takings, as well as other clubs.
Is this the beginings of a TSL crash & burn:eek:
If it is, then we know who to blame, but they wont accept any responsibility, we all know that:(

Heard a strong rumour today that a former Premiership player/former coach was asked to be caretaker coach and was thinking it over, and probably a non expected name to most I'd say.

Great points Madmug so that is three of the five southern teams getting upset with the League head honcho’s and they way the moneys being distributed, and will be going forward.
Interesting article in the Mockery by Dennis Fuller on starting a new club from scratch Why not just elevate Kingston FC as Dennis mentions after all look what Lauderdale are doing? where will the trainers support staff etc come from for the Southern Cats version 2. And leave HFC alone have 11 teams in the comp. However Argyle Street won’t listen they think the SWL is the be all and end all in Tassie sorry Scott Wade is not a mini AFL a new Kingston team can not be based on the Adelaide Crows template, what a brainless idiot for saying that. it’s a pity the clubs did not stick together and get Big Red to represent their needs he would of sorted out SW and his merry incompetent men.
As for the Glenorchy Football Club and Byron it’s about time the players put up their hands for this weak form they are in, instead of blaming the coach. The new coach whoever that will be should draw a line in the sand let the big recruits go at years end and play local kids if that means pain in the short run so be it. The way things a going IMO SWL has only got one season left before it all goes **** up again

Isnt it funny (not ha ha funny either) that same people are sitting in the same comfy chairs at the Argyle st castle who are the ones who were in those same chairs when the last SWL & some of the clubs went broke or died, when the Devils were killed off (dark pun not intended), when the Mariners went part time, are tearing Hobart fc apart, have their fingers in Burnie Devonport, etc, keep all the sponsorship & finals & AFL & government money, want to spend $300k on a new club to play on new ovals that they put $700k into what are council owned facilities.
Its also funny (still not laughing) that the media say nothing, & that our politicians who mouth platitudes about the importance of sport, clubs, participation in positive environments & the vital activity of volunteers, also have said & done SFA
Also, one might say that the fight over Hawthorn & North Melbourne has been just a sick joke as neither of those help local footy one jot!! Whatever money goes back into football really just stays at Empire central, Argyle st.
Once again, only certain clubs & individuals benefit.

Yes it’s been an epic Cluster F*ck the Scott Wade era easily the worst sporting administrator in Australia by the length of Flemington straight. Unfortunately for Tasmanian football he is untouchable and all he touches turns to shite

Heard a strong rumour today that a former Premiership player/former coach was asked to be caretaker coach and was thinking it over, and probably a non expected name to most I'd say.

just announced..

GLENORCHY has wound back the clock and will today announce former premiership player and coach Kim Excell will replace Byron Howard for the remainder of the 2011 TSL season.

Howard stood down from the role yesterday, less than 12 months after taking over from Ben Reid.

The Magpies' season is spiralling out of control, having been dumped from the State League top five following last weekend's 89-point loss to Lauderdale.

It comes just 10 rounds after the side was sitting on top of the ladder and unbeaten with a 4-0 record.

Excell coached the Magpies from 1992-1995, with the club finishing with the wooden spoon in 1992 before playing finals the following year, eventually losing the first-semi final to North Hobart.

Excell led the side to consecutive sixth places in 1994 and 95 before quitting.

Glenorchy Team of the Century wingman and Hall of Fame inductee Michael Styles will join Excell, with the pair looking to quickly turn the fortunes of the team around as it fights for a finals appearance.

The Magpies play arch rivals Clarence at KGV this Saturday.

so how does this get fixed? SW has rooted Tassie footy before and from reading the paper today is well on track to do it again.

given he is accountable to no-one.. what can be done? he is clearly the worst administrator in an AFL code in the country.

we need demetriou to come down and clean out argyle st and start again. loved Thane Brady's comments on Southern X last night, AFL Tas should be looking after the 10 teams it has instead of worrying about one not even in the league

When is someone from Glenorchy going to tell the truth and say how much of a shambles this year has been. Some may argue the Aker thing worked but we are not struggling for money and we didnt need gimmicks we need premierships. The SFL thing clearly hasnt worked as the players coming into the senior side have had no or little impact at all. Apart from Rhys Mott the recruits havent done a great deal. We recruited a sacked coach in Brown mid year who clearly is ill disciplined. Byron as senior coach didn't work. Wiggo jumped ship. We have now appointed Kim who I love but hasnt coached for 16 years. Should I keep going because the gun is loaded or is that enough.

Maybe the players need to go into the room of mirrors and take a hard good look at them self’s maybe this current group is not as good as people and they think they are?
This time last year they were not happy with the coach. its starting to sound like a broken record, Good luck X you’re going to need it.

Unfortunately things wont change unless they are forced to change. Either clubs will leave under the financial pressure, or the hand picked AFLTas board will stop being puppets & an embarrassment to themselves & do something positive, or sponsors wake up to where their money is going, or the real AFL will finally take an interest & look into this administrative Empire, or politicians will grow a spine & look at the struggle volunteer based clubs are under.
We wait for all this while some administrators sit around the mahogany desk at the Argyle st castle & plan to spend $300k on some new play thing. How FKT is that!!!!!!

Think your harsh on the club for trying with the aker thing, think it's good a club tries something outside of the square to get people interested in local footy or make some money. I guess only people behind closed doors know how many games akka could commit too but on the flip side can create disharmony in the side. Reckon your being harsh on the recruits, bit early to be judging them coming to a new club! As for Brown your spot on, can't believe they took him, what a joke.

Mate, you dont have a clue. Wiggo did not jump. He basically did not work following the big homes games at the start of the season, and the Club restructured his role to take most of the business and sponsorship responsibilities of him and bascially make his position entirely football based. This did not work either and the Club could no longer carry him. Allie is out there trying to sort the place out.

The SFL thing has worked. The Club is getting bigger crowds at most of its SFL home games then it gets for TSL games against northern clubs.

Not working on field in the TSL, yes. But this year was as much about getting the structure of the Club right off-field. And no other club got 10,000 to its opening home game!
